...dismemberment isn't quite a realism aspect, more like opposite fun aspect...ok you may argue that with a very powerful weapon close shot may dismember limbs or even torso (if its REALLY powerful!...) but thats not the point...GTAIII introduced dismemberment in its full potential and it was fun as hell! it shame its been dumbed down fruther and further with each GTA title until it left without any dismemberment at all, but it's fun while it lasted...was it realistic? i don't think so...but does it matter really? for me hell no it doesn't not every aspect in GTA has to be realistic, i like realistic damages and stuff in GTA games, but the same time i don't want it to be too over the top realistic stuff...

I agree but I still want detachable limbs. I'd LOVE to see a ped's body get destroyed as I swipe them with the blades of a helicopter. That'd be pure joy. Also when I hit them with a car I want to see their limbs go flying, even if that's not realistic.

I'd like the surrounding environment to be as realistic as possible. All forms of public transportation including commercial air lines work, you can sit anywhere, the pedestrians around you seem even more alive than in IV, the graphics look great, the physics are nice and realistic (Real physics are a blast to play with. Anyone around here play phun or rigs of rods? You know what I'm talking about), and so on.
Through it all, though, I do want the classic GTA protagonist. That is, he can store 10 or more weapons in his magic pants, he can take 100 foot falls without limping afterwords or straight up dieing, he appears outside of hospitals and police stations when busted or wasted instead of having to stay in the hospital or go to jail. He doesn't have to eat, he doesn't have to pay bills, he doesn't have to fuel up his car. That's the protagonist I want. Emotions and good writing and stuff? Well, sure, he can be as human as possible in the story, but when push comes to shove I'm not going to feed him or spend an hour in jail for every bust.

I just did a free download for SR TT, Saints Row Initialization app, not really fun, nor a taste of the game, but lets you design a character for the game, we know Rockstar won't go with that, but I do want to see them maintain the same level of story and realism, it's fine to have some fun within that satire concept they've been doing since GTA III really. GTA II was flawed and doesn't seem to fit the others, I didn't play GTA I yet, but I will eventually!

My personal problem with GTA IV is they went halfway realistic, which is just unrealistic.
'There are not miniguns, because that would be unrealistic' - So what about carrying 10 weapons in your magic pocket, and being able to equip any of them near instantly? 'The driving controls are more realistic, and less arcadey' - But I still do not need to be concerned about fuel when driving?
This is where I think GTA V needs to get its priorities right. Go for 'realism' (that 'grounded' approach), or go for something more akin to the older GTA's. With GTA IV I imagine Rockstar North opted for 'realism' as it was the simplest thing to do. "Let's get our RAGE engine working on open world game", "Let's figure out this Euphoria physics engine". More realistic graphics combined with the most realistic physics on consoles at it's time of release would mean that GTA IV was preoccupied with 'realism'. As such TBOGT was more open to that GTA craziness, as the core game had been dealt with.
So I think Rockstar need to decide if they want GTA V to be 'realistic'. There is no point being only partially realistic. I'd take Max Payne 3 as a starting point, and have a gun-limit, storage of weapons in the back of your vehicle, armour that you have to physically wear and take off when it is damaged, petrol that needs to be bought etc. Otherwise, stick with the normal GTA formula of 'crazy', which I think Vice City done so well. Crazy characters, crazy actions, crazy real world logic.
The title GTA V seems to be indicative of a change in direction, so I am hopeful.

| QUOTE (Miamivicecity @ Sunday, Jul 1 2012, 15:03) | I've never thought of GTA IV as more realistic. Just more believable. I mean if every aspect was realistic we'd have to start a new game every time we die.
What I love about GTA IV is it immerses me like some of my favourite films such as The Departed, Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco etc, but at the same time it still feels like a video game.
OTT Hollywood style action isn't my taste so much anymore. I'd definitely prefer GTA IV style gameplay, but that's just me. | This! People are always quick to put GTA IV down claiming its boring. I found it far from boring, OK there wasn't as much diversity as SA like trucker missions and jet-packs etc but the game is a masterpiece. I think GTA IV had a great amount of realism, the car physics were great from driving to damage. If you drive accross one of the bridges at night, or see the sun shimmering off the water at sunrise and still call the game dull there's something wrong with you!
