| QUOTE | It sucks that he died, but that's life. Species die, species evolve, et cetera.

The problem with animals going extinct is that our species caused the death of them, and if you've ever taken an ecology class you'd know that each and every species served a particular role that can make its environment extremely unstable if not fulfilled. That's why environmental organizations make such a big deal out of extinction and over-population. It's not life when a human causes it, it's incredibly irregular, and needs to stop being looked at with attitudes like that. I have nothing against you, and I'm sorry to go off on you like that, but when people treat things like this with such a casual attitude it angers me.

While we may be speeding up the extinction of some species, we are in no way responsible for ALL of the species that have been extinguished. While I do agree that species serve an important role in maintaining the balance of an eco system, the systems themselves will adapt to the lack of those species. Or do you think that the world has, right now, the same species that it has had since things started evolving? Nature doesn't give a crap what survives and what does not. If it wasn't fit enough for the environment, it will perish.

If it wasn't fit enough for the environment, it will perish. | That speeding up of extinction is what I have a problem with. I understand that some species go extinct without human interaction, and I realize that that's how natural selection works. Humans have caused the death of a massive amount of a certain species, and other humans excuse the actions with "that's life" is what I feel is wrong. But there's a difference with the animal's death being natural, and the killing of animals by our own species in extreme numbers, such as with what happened to The Pinta Island Tortoise, or what had happened during the Holocene extinction. The part about ecology was indeed unnecessary, and ignorant of me.
