| QUOTE (CJ killed Ryder @ Sunday, Jul 1 2012, 23:29) | | QUOTE (Arsen Vitiuk @ Sunday, Jul 1 2012, 21:24) | It's not really an improvement as you call it. It's just a simple kick-back for those whiners who always complain about losing their weapons.
My point is it takes away the challenge, that's why. The challenge of not dying. The challenge of not getting arrested... Or the challenge of finding the weapons over again, if you are unlucky.
Although demotivating sometimes, an experienced player, who is able to handle his emotions and excitement, can proceed far beyond the limit while keeping 'Busted' and 'Wasted' stats at Zero.
Even if you fail, no matter how much frustrating, you HAVE to realise it is a game. You don't die if you fail. You can replay over again. Once you replay, you get more skill. Once you get more skill, you get a tighter grip. Once you get a tighter grip, getting killed or arrested will be of no challenge to you.
Losing weapons after getting wasted or busted was supposed to be a stimulus for those not wanting to lose them. And with the stimulus taken away, the motivation disappears as well.
The same goes for Mission Replays. When you fail, you will have to make your way back to the trigger point, thus navigating through the city in order to reach it, getting to explore it more every time. And even for those who don't like failing the missions, the challenge of not failing them gets taken away because of the ability to replay the mission right away. |
But it was not neccesary. You see GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption, you don't lose your weapons in those games, that was an improvement. The missions are difficult enough, I don't want punishment for failing.
It's good they add things from new GTA's in old GTA's. I hope they add taking cover and being able to swim too.
I guess you are the only one in the world with this strange opinion. I want to complete games as fast as possible, so that I also have time to complete other games. | Actually, you lose weapons in GTA IV if you get Busted.
I agree with Arsen, but whenever I fail I just restart, I like having 0 Mission Fails. Anyways, once again, that is not an Improvement. I just disagree with ability to swim, sure adds much better challenge, but the bigger challenge is actually swimming back... God... I like exploring water and such, especially in SA, I loved it, GTA III LC's water was dirty like hell, so really, no need to adding swimming ability, same with LCS. But VC that fact was killing me. Beautiful Miami style beaches and no swiming... Damn... I prefer the challenge, but it beautiful waters... That is just silly. The VCS Style was pretty perfect, Swimming in a limited amount of time. Has both, Challange and errr, swimming in beautiful waters. Though, a Challenging mission for Infinite stamina would be pretty good.

Wow. I wouldn't though that Arsen will write such extreme sayings.
If you like a good challenge, how about I make you a mod, that makes GTA III 100x more harder? No armor whatsoever, no weapon pickups, no hidden packages rewards, constant 4 star police, every gang equipped with M16...
I know that's just your opinion, but you must respect other people that might not be as good as you at GTA III. I personally don't think I'm good at GTA III. (I like VC better), yet I still would like some kind of official renewal of III-era games.
Let's face it, GTA III is ugly. Arsen will write that it's what it supossed to look like. But c'mon, you can still keep the Liberty City's atmosphere, AND make the graphics better. This game is over 10 years old, not many people are playing it now.
Giving them vanilla PS2 renewal on PS3, might turn off new players who possibly didn't hear about GTA III, you know, those new people that are playing GTA IV now, and might want to play older GTA games. And having them seen better graphics and some nifty little tricks, would make the experience for them much better.
In fact you can use ENB Series, to make the city look even more dull, and mysterious, instead of bright and flashy. Or use the original beta timecyc.dat, Filip454 posted.
(Should I really make this mod I wrote about it?)

|
That works only about 75% of the time. Sometimes you don't spawn on the shore. | Well, you have to be close to the shore (or to the jetty). Anyway, let's get back to the ORIGINAL topic. We have gone way far as it is, aye?

Sometimes the shore is so far away, you just want to get on the nearest place that has a place to park your boat. And sometimes when getting out of the boat you drown.

| QUOTE | | You see GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption, you don't lose your weapons in those games |
That's only half true, as YES, if you got wasted in IV then you kept your weapons(you just lost a lot of cash though)-however, if you got Busted you DID lose your weapons(and no cash)... If you really don't want to lose your weapons, all you have to do is be extremely careful in missions and such as to not get wasted/busted-simple as that.. However, since there are 8 save slots, there is NO reason to not use them, so if you do get busted/wasted you can reload the previous save and not lose any progress...another simple idea.. However, as far as swimming goes, SA is the ONLY III era GTA to have truly unlimited swimming...as in VCS, you could swim but there was a Stamina bar that replaced the Armor bar while in water and it went down in time(seemed fast at times) and when that went down you automatically drowned and were wasted.. It would have been good if they would've at least used the Scarface game(PS2/PC versions') way of swimming in VC-ie. you could swim, but if you were in the water too long, you got eaten by a shark and were wasted(simulated being in the water too long)...(I used Scarface, as it was set in the same city as VC, which is Miami, FL(Scarface's setting was the real Miami whereas VC is Miami based)... OT-VC and III on PS3 would be good for those that don't have a PS2 or just want to game on the PS3 instead..I think they should release all III games on PS3(III, VC, and SA)...Would be good to include SA, since V is set in LS(same as SA)-gives people a chance to get to know LS better for when V is released..Same as when VCS was due to come out-playing VC gave you the feel and knowledge of the city for when you were ready for VCS...same idea..

Actually, if you get wasted in GTA IV, you lose 10%-15% Percent of the cash, but you keep the weapons, and If you get Busted, you lose both, weapons, and 20%-25% of th cash. But in Vanilla, TLaD and TBoGT if I get wasted, busted or failed a mission (At least the one that is accounted to mission failed in stats if failed) or just reload the game.
Also, VCS, you can get Infinity Stamina if you complete Beach Patrol. And by that time, every area will be unlocked. They did Lock it so you wont swim in the locked areas in the beginning of the game.

I might be the only one to feel this way, but I think that the graphics (however bad you may think they are) are irreplaceable. Yes, you probably can change them to make them "better" and still keep the atmosphere (even though I think it would be difficult) but to me it wouldn't feel like GTA III anymore. | QUOTE (radioman) | | However, as far as swimming goes, SA is the ONLY III era GTA to have truly unlimited swimming...as in VCS, you could swim but there was a Stamina bar that replaced the Armor bar while in water and it went down in time(seemed fast at times) and when that went down you automatically drowned and were wasted.. |
I can't stand the swimming aspect of newer GTA's so I might not be correct on this, but didn't San Andreas have some sort of breathing bar that did the same thing? This post has been edited by Andreaz1 on Monday, Jul 2 2012, 16:25

You can find proof in the PC version of the game - the game's atmosphere was not ruined but hampered when the graphics were improved. I appreciate your point of view. Everything is good as it is.

' The only time the bar in SA went down, is when you swam under water too long..coming back to the surface of the water allowed the bar to slowly fill back up..Swimming on the surface did not affect the stamina bar..The only thing that was added in SA is the automatic 4-star wanted level(non-removable) for accessing the locked islands early...IV did the same thing with the locked islands(6-star wanted level-non removable) Also, VCS made it where when you got close to the East Island before it was open, the tide would keep you from reaching shore-thus making for a instant death pretty much, as you would not have time to get back to the West Island safely before the bar depleted and you died..VCS and IV did not have the ability to swim under water..The ONLY times swimming made sense in VCS is the first mission and anytime you used a boat(in case you fail into the water upon exiting)..In VC, if I use a boat, I usually just land at the Boat yard, so I know I will land on the ground upon exiting.. OT-ANY GTA that has drivable boats needs swimming, in case you fall in upon exiting(it happens)...
