here are my suggestions on how the HUD should be modified (in GTA V), the images are based on GTA IV screenshots upon which i drew the heads up display with coreldraw. i will add more images as i finish them, complete with information on the HUD elements.

the player's HP is represented by the circle around the mini-map, the mini map only shows the player's immediate surroundings in order to avoid over-reliance on it during missions. the weapon the player is currently equipped of is displayed to the left of your HP and mini-map. red markers represent enemies, yellow markers represent mission objectives, blue markers represent police officers and the white marker represents the player on the mini-map.

how it should look when the player's HP is critically low.

user posted image

how it will look when the player is wearing an armor, note the "2" in the blue circle which indicates your protection level.

user posted image

the vehicle HUD displays your current speed, the vehicle's armor level and whether it is damaged or not.

user posted image

the warning sign to the left of the armor level indicator should illuminate when the vehicle is critically damaged (i.e burst wheels or leaking fuel).

With the latest survey that was released regarding GTA and the Vita, I was hoping for some connection between the Vita and GTA V. Lke the Vita being the controller, the HUD could be on the Vitas screen, leaving the TV screen completely clear of a HUD.

No,the GTA HUD should always be like the classical one on the top right corner.Aside from that,it doesn't look bad,but where is armor and breath? possibly?

To be honest I think it could work like the IV one with some changed colors and patterns.

armor and breath are only displayed when they are needed, as you can probably see, Niko is neither wearing armor nor swimming.

i'm going to make one displaying them later.

strange, i always thought that "modern" things should be "light" and slimmed down. do you also believe that the HUD in GTA IV is oldschool, or is it just my design? if it's my design, what's wrong with it?

Perhaps you and the general population of a third world country like Belgium aren't aware of what civilized people consider modern, I guess that I just don't know.

I also don't know if you think that your HUD is modern, light and slimmed down, but I certainly don't. I think that the HUD has to be transparent so that they eyes aren't naturally drawn to it all the time. Also, your radar could be considered confusing as there is no indication as to which way Niko is facing.

Did you honestly expect a positive reception to this nonsense? A round of applause, maybe?

lol, buster

1. my HUD is modern, light and slimmed down compared to that of GTA IV.

2. if you find my mini-map confusing you probably need a chaperone to prevent you from getting lost in your own home.

Overall I just don't like this, it just looks like change for the sake of change. You have the mini map way too stripped down. I don't see that being very useful to me compared to the fuller and more detailed mini maps of previous games. Compare it with GTA IV's mini map, it's both simple yet detailed at the same time. It doesn't need to be changed imo, and definitely should not be changed to this.

And if you're going for a slimmer HUD, surrounding your gun and ammo counter with that box isn't the way to go. In this case, GTA IV pulled off a much better job of it. I'd also keep the weapon slot at the top right like it has always been, to keep it consistent with the rest of the series.

No offence, but I don't like it.

In the HUD poll I voted for the GTA 3 Era HUD. I rather the weapon, money, health, breath etc. in the top right corner, separate from the map.

Your HUD is not easy on the eye. Although, coral draw is a very basic program. I have to ask, though, how on earth can you describe your HUD as modern? In my opinion, it looks like it's been pulled out an early build GTA III.

It's so bad it's laughable. I'm on the fence as to whether you're actually serious right now.

In response to your petty insult...

GTA IVs pre Bronze Age HUD marked Niko as an arrow, so that you knew which direction you were facing. Your post apocalyptic Poland style HUD, on the other hand, marks Niko as a dot. Can you not see where the potential directional confusion could pop up here? Or are you going to continue insisting that we, the wise experts, are wrong and that you are right, and that your HUD IS modern, slim and other good stuff?

What happens when Niko walks over the edge of the mini map? It appears that your design would mean that the mini-map would constantly have to jump or reload in order to keep up with Niko. Further problems could arise in such a case when traveling at high speed on a donkey (assuming that GTA V will be set in 1646 based on your HUD).

Also, the colour fading gimmick is supposed to replace a health bar. Although, I am not a fan as they do not give the player as much information as a health bar.
