God Bless America. |
On what grounds? |
Take your pick. They were exposed to violent retribution and emotional scarring after being exposed in the video. Or they could take the RIAA route and complain that they created the video in the first place and are entitled to the profits.
I'm being incredibly facetious, if that wasn't evident by the "God Bless America" signoff. | I know, but still.

This is how kids in America act, especially the ones between 4th and 8th grade. I remmeber back in 5th I was one of the kids being bullied, one time they stole my squirtle figurine and almost kept it, I had to 'fake' tears to get it back. The worst part is that you can't reason with them. Their insults could be nonsensical as f*ck, but their friends will still laugh at you, and if you returned the greatest wisecrack in the world they'd look at you like you just spoke it in German. | QUOTE | The fact that this woman has made a small fortune for failing at her job is the kind of irony you'd expect in the US.

Every charity/fund/etc. is people driven. This charity had a great idea, giving a woman a vacation for having to put up with a bus ride of insults not just towards her, but her family as well. When the people find this fund, and feel real emotion they're going to donate towards it. The person who controlled the thing should have put a limit on how much they could make, or who knows, maybe the extra money will be donated towards some greater cause. Don't blame a whole country, or a woman who volunteered and didn't expect she'd need that certain set of skills. This post has been edited by zoo3891 on Thursday, Jun 21 2012, 23:44

everyone says that. "_______ these days."
everyone seems to think that their day was better than "these days." but I don't know if there's any truth to that.
I think boys will be boys no matter what generation we live in. I don't think this kind of behavior is anything new or different. the only difference is that everyone has a camera now. so "these days" you're simply exposed to it more. I don't know if it's any worse or actually happening more than it used to. but now you've got the opportunity to SEE it when you had no way to do that just 15 years ago (just before cellphone video cameras). |
I feel like you are right, and in fact your statement might be 100% true. However, I can look back and say that even as I kid I wouldn't have gone this far taunting someone, yet alone an elderly person. Nor can I say I knew anyone that I suspect would have. It seems to me that every generation is just a little more desensitized then the one that came before it. I could possibly be looking back through rose colored glasses, but I can't help feeling like that observation is valid. Respect is something that just isn't afforded to people in the way it used to be. I'm no saint. I've treated others badly in my life, but I have never picked on someones grandma for f*cks sake. You just don't do it. These kids have to have some really laid back "parents". There is just no excuse for thinking this is ok. Then again, maybe its just the excess of video cameras now days, as you said... Surely though, there has to be more to it. I mean I honestly just can't fathom treating an elder (and a woman) this way without any kind of provocation. It is absolutely disgusting. So disgusting to me in fact that to even try to rationalize it as kids being kids is hard to take. I'm not one of these bleeding hearts that wants to see bullies go to jail or something equally ridiculous, but really there just isn't an excuse for this... just, none.

yeah but over the last 10 years "punishment" has changed, in the early 50s if a kid did this he would get smacked so hard and he wouldnt do it again, now a days if a kid does something like this, his parents will be like "heres a xbox, now promise me you wont do it again" | No, it would be more like "no xbox for one hour" as a punishment. It all depends on how the parents teach them from right and wrong. Saying that they would reward their kids for doing bad is going a bit too far off, but I'm sure it's happened.
