I belong to a website called OperationSports.com. The main focus of this website is sports games and forums are provided to discuss these games.

SCEA Sports, which is a Playstation company, and the creator of the MLB The Show franchise has developers that visit the site daily for feedback from fans.

I recently instant messaged (one of the cooler features of the site) one of the developers by the name of. He is based out of the SCEA main headquarters in San Diego, California.

I asked him whether he had any contacts at Rockstar San Diego headquarters and he actually happened to know quite a few of the developers that worked there. My main question to him was - WHY such a lack of info?

He had a very simple explanation for me - Rockstar simply doesn't have to release info. There marketing strategy is the same it's always been for past games (especially GTA games) and that is mum is the word.

He told me that he has absolutely no idea when the next GTA trailer would be released or when new info may surface but he assured me they are in no rush from people he has talked to. He is actually eagerly anticipating the game as much as most of us. He said that Rockstar knows by saying nothing about the game they are actually building the hype and making people discuss the game ever more. This makes sense if you think about it.

He's right. It annoys the hell out of people though. Wouldn't have it any other way if I had the choice, I look forward to finding out things on my own in GTA games rather than knowing it all before hand.

I agree with you. I like having to discover things on my own. The main info I want at this point is a release date.

What...?

That is not a marketing strategy at all; it's torturing the incredibly tiny fraction of customers who'll actually remember the game during the info drought.

I'm calling BS on this.

But what about over a long period of time? People tend to forget about a one minute trailer after a few months.

I agree that some people are beginning to forget about GTA V.

But you do realize that once Trailer #2 is released GTA V will BLOW UP the internet like Trailer #1 did right?

Twitter will blow up as well and GTA V will be trending for days.

Then everyone will start to forget again, unless Rockstar brings out a steady batch of screenshots once a month until release, if it is included in trailer 2.

So what you're saying is this is the perfect strategy? If what you're saying is true, then it means that the majority of GTA fans have put the game to the back of their minds, and so, when new info drops, will be as excited as they were back in October, because they haven't been complaining every single day for the past 7 months.

What is BS is the idea that R* thinks flaying their dedicated fans alive for months on end to "build up hype" in only ~1000 people is a good idea. 99% of all people who'll end up buying the game moved on with their lives and forgot about it a week at most after the trailer.

I just want a release date.

This game will definitely be on PS3/Xbox 360/PC for sure.

Yes thats what I want too, but I would also like to know as a PC player how much longer I have to wait once it's released, I wanna know if for example they say "Out October 2012" and I'll be able to get it same time or 1 month later like with MP3, or if I need to wait another half year.

Yea and big deal on a trailer, should have learned that on Nov 2, as the first one showed me nothing about it being a great game, or any features to look forward too. Want a 10 page preview instead of showing a look a like cj running from cops, and a jet. Ohhh game of the world, the best ever, they need to give details, not a tease that will excite the diaper dandies.

What is so cool about it being V, please do tell, give me details on something that will make me actually wanna buy the next gta.

It's clear from that you weren't impressed by the trailer. What is also clear is that you're still here, 7 months after viewing the trailer that disappointed you so.

Wow another little kid that ruined the GTA forums. So someone cant give an opinion on a subject at hand, then states they arent impressed with the trailer, and me being here 7 months after the fact means what again! It is called a forums for discussion. Dont be sad at someone saying something about precious Johnny's GTA. Opnions are good and they are what makes the world go round.

Another key note nobody observed from the OP, is that a person in a higher up position at SCEE acutally answers this guys question unlike non sociable egotistic R*, who are too good for there fans to even answer a question, sh*t let alone an email. Can you imagine Houser or the other big guys actually taking the time to email little pesant old me, that might happen in another lifetime. I have many people working on games that take time out to answer questions i have.

OMG at post above, yea you proved my point. Exactly it is game of the century you have me convinced now.

Well it isn't working, if knowing about GTAV seems to be underground knowledge. Anytime I post something on facebook about V, I get the same response from a different person each time - "theyre making a GTA V? Is there a trailer?"

Everybody knew about vice city and san Andreas, funny how the only difference is that after 7 months of hype with those we alreadyy had been rewarded for our patience
