I know topic like this are based on people likes and dislikes and theoretically "de gustibus non est disputandum", but do you guys really feel that some of the movies are so great to be on list like this? Did they really were the best movies you've seen?
I am asking, because I've seen Shotgun Stories and I must say it was one of the worst movies I've watched recently. Story about conflict between two "step" families could be interesting base for movie, but only if done properly. In this movie it was made terribly. Conflict escalates, there are first victims, but one of the guys decides that he doesn't wanna fight anymore and movie ends . Not to mention that actual conflict starts in 3/4 of the lenght of the movie. It makes the movie extremally slow and hard to watch. There are even scenes with fully black screen, no sound or music, which can last around 7 seconds. Great way to make movie... Terribly slow pacing, not convincing acting and general feel of B class movie creates perfect cure for insomnia.
I can't say I am big fan of BHC. It was good to watch back in the days, it had nice story, not bad acting and memorable theme (Axel F.), but it was nothing more than typical action comedy. It serves the same role till these days and I don't believe it will be considered as something more.
There is difference between these two movies in this battle, one of them is entertaining and it wasn't Shotgun Stories, so my vote goes to Beverly Hills Cop 2.

| QUOTE (OchyGTA @ Wednesday, Jun 20 2012, 16:48) | Ok I guess I'll kick start this one since I put Beverly Hills Cop 2 in the list in the first place. I've never even heard of 'Shotgun Stories' so my decision is obviously going to be swayed in the opposite direction.
Beverly Hills Cop 2 is one of my favorite films. Eddie Murphy reprises the role of Axel Foley, a street-wise Detroit detective, and together with his friends in the Beverly Hills Police Department, he takes on an armed robbery ring. It isn't your usual buddy cop movie considering there are three main characters but each of them gets an adequate amount of screen time. I feel that the characters in this are what makes the film. The banter and chemistry between the trio of cops more significantly, between the two Beverly Hills detectives makes the film enjoyable from start to end. The plot isn't the strongest but the interaction feels almost natural and makes up for that weakness. I think it defines an 80's action-comedy to be honest with it's over the top shoot-outs and somewhat slapstick comedy. I love this film.
As I've said, never seen the other so can't comment but class this as one vote for Beverly Hills Cop 2. | I should have posted earlier but I have been a bit busy. You've definitely stated a very good, valid response to why Beverly Hills Cop 2 is a great film, but in order for a vote to be considered a "vote", you need to have seen the two films.

Most of the civilized world would beg to differ. I don't recall these torturous (seven whole seconds of which! Monstruous!) intermissions but can only assume that their intended effect was entirely lost on you, or your dvd player was broken, or the awards screener you downloaded was watermarked. Whatever the cause, I'm certainly far more aware now of your specific tastes and propose that your voting power be reduced by half. Then rounded down. Facetiously. It's an incredible film stunningly executed on all fronts and, yes, I'll wager it's a more realistic portrayal of human struggles and conflict than, well, most of my other nominations and that can translate to something an ADD riddled reviewer would sum up as boring. But i willput forth that film need not scream at you for the better part of twohours to be engaging. There's honestly no contest against a film known predominantly for its predecessor and a wicked theme song. Vote goes to Shotgun Stories.
