District 13 was cheap and not needed "Escape from NY" rip-off. District 13 - Ultimatum was even worse. There is district full of bad people in Paris. Everything was supposed to be fix after first movie, but politicians didn't want to fulfill their promises and company wanted to fill their wallets with more money, so someone decided to make a sequel of very mediocre movie. Few words about "story" Very mysterious organisation want to fix problem with B-13. They are some kind of Secret Service inside Secret Service, yet they are using cars with their name on the plates. God knows what for. Fantastic captain (better than Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee put together) of french police want to stop them from doing this and he always can count on Laito - his friend from B-13. They put a team built up from people belonging to every ethnic group living in France, kick the bad guys, save the president and say few slogans about brotherhood, equality and family. Okay, Enough of that sugar.
This movie is simply putting crap and it should be nominated to totally opposite list. We got movie with story written by some 12 years old kid, totally wooden acting (bag of potatoes can show more emotions), stupidity at every second (car driving thru the wall, rockets flying thru gratings and so on).
I was counting on some great le parkour, but unfortunately someone probably thought that ass kicking (one guy defeating 12 guys) is more appealing that acrobations.
Ghost in the Shell is fantastic movie that changed sci-fi cinematography and ispired Wachowski Brothers to make Matrix. They were so inspired that they were copying whole scenes from GiTS and pasting them into their movie.
GiTS perfectly merges sci-fi thriller with philosophy ("Ghost" theory, differencies between human and machine, AI self awareness and so on). Great ambient music and perfect pictures, being masterpieces on their own are fulfilling this picture.
GiTS is based on manga by Masamune Shirrow and unfortunately some threads had to be cut in order to create consistent movie, which resulted in narrowed picture of the world. This informations are not needed to fully understand this great movie, though.
Since this is one of the easiest battles for me (if kicking lying midget can be called a fight) my vote goes to Ghost in The Shell.
