They declared shipment of 3 millions units, but the may sales seems to be considerably lower.

So much for the May launch window: Max Payne 3 a flop, according to NPD; can't believe Rockstar put off releasing GTA to work on that game

440.000 units on 360 and ps3 in the US during may.

Personally I didn't find(before the release) Max Payne 3 so appealing, everything seems fine, but the setting for me was ugly as max payne's hawaian t shirt.
In the end I bought the game mostly because of crews and because I wanted to play something during summer, but I can say that the thing that sold me was crew integration with GTAV.

The game is good but is interesting to notice that a ugly and boring game like L.A. Noire sold more. Probably because it looked more innovative and people didn't know how the real game was.

It also worths a mention the fact that Mp3 disappeared in the xbox live top games last week. And that the copies sold on pc are a small numbero compared to ps3 or 360, just make a comparison with crew rankings to see it.

Now that unfortunately Max Payne failed to sell enough (it's rumoured that it has been in development for 8 years, dsurely it was for 5+ years) and probably to cover its development costs, I think it's time to move on GTA V marketing.
GTA V is capable of selling a lot and a percentage of its sales means millions.

How many f*cking threads do we need about this ?

Also to the people that say that MP3's failure is a good thing for GTA V... no it's a horrible thing. It could mean that they rush the game out before it was meant to be.

Then what's MP3's development cost if you claim that R* did not sell enough?

It's not even close of being done. We'd have more info and trailers if it was.

I've lurked this site for a long time actually, plus it's irrelevant because a lot of info has come up in the past days suggesting it's done.

Like:
3 Rockstar North employees on holidays
The developers were making final touches in June 2011.

Not that hard to come to that conclusion, whether it's wrong or not.

SA had it's first trailer 2 months before release, and I guess it would finished 2 months before release.

That's actually pretty sad...
I bought Max Payne 3 and really enjoyed it!
In my opinion the game deserves much more attention because it's a masterpiece (just look at the story)
I don't think they will move on with GTA V marketing, I think they'll try to promote Max Payne 3 as long as possible to sell more copies

@Jacko It was never meant to sell as much as GTA V lol. The production cost of MP3 is most likely just a small fraction of GTA V's.

Honestly, how much more info do we need besides a release date? This is a GTA game we're talking about, there won't be any 'new' gameplay mechanics to show off (Like RDR, LANoire, and MP3)

GTA IV was only going to have two trailers at most before release, sure we got some screenshots, and other goodies, but it was the first GTA on the PS3/Xbox360. If you ask me, we won't be seeing too much more about GTA V, besides a release date, a few screenshots and maybe another trailer. I've said it before, but we won't be seeing a marketing campaign like Max Payne 3 got, because they just aren't the same thing.

For the last four years, Rockstar has been working with New/Revived IPs that needed a ton of attention, and had a good chance of bombing. Which is why there were extensive marketing campaigns for each of the said games. There was nothing wrong with MP3's Marketing, what happened was the stupid kids who refused to buy it because it wasn't GTA V.

That said, there is no way in hell that GTA V is going to fail. Rockstar knows this, and they won't be feeding into this attention starved idiocy that their fanbase has created.

This has been talked about and locked everytime, why bring it up again? For the record, I don't understand this "I hope MP3 fails so I get GTAV mentality". Why would you not want your favorite game developer to expand their portfolio in an attempt for longevity?

Lol.
I'm only wondering why R* keeps promoting MP3.
If you see the DLC list, you'll know they keep trying the MP3 fanbase.
Every dickheads on Earth like use know what GTA is and we all on the whole world love GTA.
There is no other game that can beat GTA, GTA will f*ck all games deep up their asses.
That's a fact lol xD

Pachter sucks. The sales figures he talks about may be true, but as for 8 years in development? He has no more of an idea about how long MP3 was truly in full-time development than you or I. He's just saying the maximum amount of time possible for sensationalist purposes only.

Everyone knew MP3 was not going to sell too well. I bought my own copy and I think it's a great game. But R*'s plan backfired, IMO. They used the initial GTAV trailer to attract people to the newswire to get all the latest and greatest MP3 news, and I'm sure that helped sell some copies. The problem is they released a trailer for the most popular gaming franchise in history. Well when you do something like that, after a short while people just simply don't give a sh*t about something that's new and un-tested. They want the tried and true product that they know works and will 100% guarantee them entertainment. That's where R* f*cked up in using GTAV to promote MP3.

They've spent so much effort and money investing into the Max Payne IP, but people just don't want it when they know a new GTA is on the horizon. MP3 DLC will not sell well, and their multiplayer is still bugged and not much fun.

I applaud them for taking these sorts of risks and trying to push the boundaries of gaming, but MP3 is turning out to be a bit of a letdown financially. They still need to promote and support it to squeeze every dollar out of it as they can, but it's time for some GTA news to spark interest again. This silence is starting to turn into negative publicity for R*

Well yeah. But it's been over 4 years since GTA IV and this silence of Rockstar concerning GTA V makes me feel like they are going to do a crazy marketing campaign. I mean it would just feel weird that after all these years ( and this silence after the first trailer ) they just tell the release date and a few trailers.
