I was doing research into video game controversy and I found a few interesting articals.

20 October 2003
Two teenagers were shot and killed by William and Josh Buckner who later admited their actions were influenced by GTA III

February 2005
A Teenager in Alabama stole a car, when police oficers everntually aproached him after he had colided with another car, he grabbed the officers weapon and shot and killed him along with two other officers. He also said he was influenced by GTA III

September 2006
Cody Posey had the game conferscated by his father. In anger he butcherd him in his sleep.

2009
A 6 year old boy stole his family car and took it on a 10 mile ride before crashing it after playing GTA III

2010
Two brothers in Alabama took their dads rifles and sat on a tree above a freeway fireing them at cars, they said they "got the idea from Vice city" They killed two people and wounded 5.

I'm not saying its a bad game, but I think its repulsive that kids go out and do stuff like this, giving the game such a bad name.

Some boy in china tried to actually jack a taxi, when the driver fought back he stabbed him to death. He later said he needed money for GTA 4 and wanted to see if jacking was as easy as it was on the game.

What are your thoughts?

I honestly think blaming your actions on a video game is similar to someone who blames their actions on autism: they cant say they did it themselves, so they blame their "meantal condition" or a video game to justify their own actions

Man. Where the hell had he been all those years. He gotta get out of his hole and get with the times.

It just takes a few hijackings or murders to fire up Jack Thompson and get R* in trouble or something. I reckon less than 1% of these crimes are due to GTA, and probably less than 20% are due to video games. To add to this I think more than 90% of these kids are just complete psychopaths.

They shouldn't blame the video game, they should blame either the parents for letting their clearly disturbed child play a violent video game or the person themselves. Look at my sig and name, do you think I'm some sort of makeup wearing gangbanger going around shooting people? Nah, because I know the difference between ENTERTAINMENT and REALITY. Video games are the same way. It's a form of entertainment. And if you can't see the line between fiction and reality, then you shouldn't be playing them in the first place, you should be in a padded cell.

The parents shouldn't have let their kids play the game as they clearly weren't mature enough to play it, and couldn't handle it.

Well thank God I didn't end up like this. I used to do Vice City actions, but never did any crime(joyriding, grand theft auto, murdering). All I did(all of these that happened was when I was 7 years old. lol) was playing guns using my pencil case.

What kind of f*cking parents are these? My parents let me play VC at 9 years old and helpfully informed me of how crime is bad, though I had already seen COPS and various police video shows informing me of the futility of crime. You don't see me going on chainsaw rampages, do you?

I always thought GTA was a game to let out the players frustration on, so the player wouldn't go out and do something stupid for real.

I don't get how kids can go out do something stupid after seeing it in a game. The game isn't real, just like a movie props aren't real. Of course the protag is going to respawn, and the actor in a movie is going to be on Entertainment Tonight talking about what all he/she does in their free time and who they screwed.

I guess some people can't handle playtime.

I think people need self-control and proper parenting before playing a game like GTA. I mean I'm not gonna lie, GTA has pumped me up many times after playing but I've never actually gone out of my way and done anything stupid like jack a car or stab somebody and that's because I've learned the difference between reality and fiction before playing this game.

And I think the only one to blame for that 6 year old boy story is the parents. I admit I let my little brother younger than that play GTA and he started to act strange after a while but thankfully, he learned the difference between the game and real life and by now has completely forgotten about that game too which is only pleasing to me.

Sure they can blame video games for their f*ck ups, kids will always blame anything but themselves. The parents on the other hand should be the ones at fault. If they had done a better job raising these kids, or if they had been more attentive to the possibility of their child having a mental instability, these crimes could have been prevented. They obviously were in need of professional help, their parents should have given it to them.

GTA and other violent video games are just used as a scapegoat by failed parents and f*cked up children. Oh and degenerates like Jackass Thompson, people like that guy thrive on this kind of thing.
