I believe what we are seeing with newer GTAs is just like what we saw last gen with the III-era games Last gen, III introduced us to the play style and world, this gen, that was IVs role. Following III we had Vice city, a perfected, smoother experience than III of which added fun (bikes, choppers); this gen, the episodes did this introducing unique weapons, cars and the parachute. Then the III-era gave us San Andreas. Because of the pattern I am seeing, it is clear to see that V will return to the series in its whole and what GRAND THEFT AUTO has to offer this generation. Sorry for mistakes, done on my IPod touch.

it is pretty high chance GTAV could become "Vice City" of "IV" era if you know what i mean...but much bigger territory wise...

R* dont work in patterns like that. Only pattern ive seen them eploy recently is pbvious mismanagement at the highest levels of the company.

I think we all expect the second title on the current platform to be smoother, with more features etc.

But, what I'm saying is that III offered a core experience, like IV. VC offered an extended, more enriching experience whereas San Andreas gave us all Rockstar could of which I believe V will do. I also agree with your point about Rockstars mismanagement.

Yep I agree R* and their mismanagement.

I think Lost and the Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony was what Vice City was to GTA3. Essentially the same game but with some new things thrown in (except no new city this time).
And V will be what San Andreas was to GTAIII. A gigamap and even more things to do, basically pushing the engine's capabilities.

To OP:

Completely agree. I was thinking the exact same. Although there was a slight improvement from III to Vice City regarding graphics/smoothness, it was nowhere near the jump from VC to San An. One of the first things I remember about playing San An was how clear/smooth was compared to III/VC.

So yeah I think the same will happen with V. All I know is we are in for one hell of a game.

*sorry for mistakes - using android.

I'll be amazed if the game is even released at this point. 4 years, one trailer, no info ....it's not looking good at this point.

I'll believe it when I see it. If the first forklift I come up on doesn't work, then me and R* have a serious problem. I'm expecting a lot of other things too, within reason, that is. Is it too much to have a damn crane that works? Or a dump truck that dumps? Or a car hauler? Remember the car crusher in III? Whatever happened to that inovative R* that we loved? IV wasn't the R* that I thought it would be, being next-gen and all. They left almost everything out. What I'm gettin' around at is that R* could do that again and this may just be GTA IV.2. They have a lot to prove with this one and we won't know until we get our grubby, little hands on it.

I agree with OP about the whole GTA III to Vice City. I think this is what we will see the same sort of thing with GTA IV to V

I've said this before in some other thread, but to me GTA IV to V isn't like III to Vice City.

The jump in quality seems to be bigger. I'm confident I'll be like going from III to San Andreas.

Your "Vice City" of this gen was Red Dead Redemption. Sure, it ain't GTA, but they improved the very core engine of that game. V it's going to be better than if it was just a straight update from IV's codebase tounge.gif

SA made history and was so impressive because was launched one year before the next gen.If R* think to fight against games like watch dogs(2013) or the new just cause (probably 2013 also) that run in consoles 10 times more powerful, then gta v could be an extremely ephemeral masterpiece.

There is no way you truly believe one of the largest franchises all time is going to just be vaporware after an announcement trailer. I am amazed at some of the comments in this section lately........

You should go ask Valve fans and see how they feel about Half-Life 2: Episode 3/Half-Life 3...

Lmao that was right on point.

The amazement will be on that R* even decides to release the game at some point in time.
