I've noticed lately we've hit a serious drought in our lack of info, I'm not sure how many months but I'm sure somebody will end up saying it in this topic anyway. So I wanted to ask you guys do you think R* has taken a new marketing approach when it comes to the GTA series?
First off GTA is a world renown franchise, just the announcement, or release date would be enough marketing for R* and they'd still push millions of units, due to word of mouth and the release date info. Maybe this is the approach R* has taken? With IV I felt as if they gave us too MUCH information and gave us too much in terms of the story, and the city, and what to expect.
Some may argue that R* marketed games like MP3, RDR, and LA Noire heavily, so they will approach V in the same way, but as I stated above GTA is a world renown franchise, whereas those other titles are quite new to the casual gamer and thus would lead them to market them heavy.
What do you guys think? Has R* taken a new approach to marketing V? Or can we expect some sort of flood of info coming soon?
(PS if you say "inb4thelock" it is safe to assume your still a virgin with no life who just sits at home all day and waits to write that on EVERY topic on this website.)

| QUOTE (blowtorchrepair @ Tuesday, Jun 12 2012, 18:23) | | well, whenever the marketing actually does start we certainly don't need 6 months of it. with internet and all social media the game could be announced to go on sale next week and it would still sell like hotcakes. and with a 6-month marketing campaign, we would not be seeing the game this year if nothing is announced by the end of this month. |
A big part of the fun of past GTA buildups (I am thinking of GTA-SA specifically) was the release of screenshots and additional trailers in the 6 months or so ahead of the game release, and all the fantastic forum dialog this info generated. Seriously, it was several months of great anticipation and building happiness; really it is part of the experience that we are paying our $60 for. It was really fun, and I want to see that again with GTAV.

The game will sell itself.

What I meant, was anticipation based on incrementally released game info. The frequency of info coming out as GTA-SA got close was pretty good - it gave us things to think about and talk about from week to week. What I did not mean was 4 years plus 7 months of no info (except the beautiful Trailer). I think we all expected a marketing campaign to follow the Trailer bombshell, and it would have been great. But, no dice.... Yep, I will be gald to pick up the game tomorrow. That would be acceptable, at this point.

I have a bridge to sell you... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkkoHAzjnUs |
It's just an announcement trailer, I'd agree that the marketing hasn't actually started yet. 7 months of nothing isn't marketing. | Yeah man.Unlike with the previous GTA's, GTA V was announced through a trailer, that's it.They let us know that the next GTA is coming.People(including me,partly due to the euphoria surrounding the trailer) assumed that a trailer release meant that it was the beginning of the marketing. But then I realized that this wait is no different from the one between june 06-march 07.
