Alright, so, I decided to put aside all of my problems and frustrations with San Andreas, but I came across another one today that's been pissing me off hard since the first day I installed this game.

Basically, I can't run the game at 100 FPS, as dumb as it may sound - this is my problem.
I'm pissed off about this because, everyone I've seen with my PC specifications can run it at 100 FPS, and somehow what I get is something around 50-70 FPS.

Specs:

Motherboard: ASUS M4A88T-/USB-3
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4Ghz
Graphic's card: ASUS Radeon HD 6850 1GB
RAM: AMD 4GB Performance Edition
Power supply: CORSAIR CX-500W

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit version, I've got all of the drivers updated.

Any thoughts on this?
Thanks in advance.

I believe the game is supposed to run at 25-30.
have you turned off the Frame Limiter?

I turned off frame limiter, obviously, otherwise it'd be impossible to run it at 50 FPS, considering it limits up to 25.
Eitherway, I've put the graphic's settings to minimum and surprisingly, it still runs at the same framerate. I have the exact same problem on Assassin's Creed 2 and I haven't found a solution yet.

Just as a matter of reference:
USA manual: Advanced Display Option Page...
QUOTE (Frame Limiter ON / OFF)

Normally the frame rate of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is capped at 30 frames per second. This option allows the game to go faster than 30 frames per second. Be warned that this will not magically make Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas run better, but may make your experience "more variable".  We do not recommend un-locking the frame rate. If you have a fast machine, it is far perperable to increase resolution, detail options, anti-aliasing, etc. rather than trying to achieve a higher frame rate by un-locking the Frame Limiter. This will lead to a more variable game play experience.

Click> GTA: San Andreas FPS Limit Adjuster Specify a custom frame rate limit for SA.
Click > Frame Limiter Patch

? Why do you need 100 fps?

Maybe update your drivers?

Read the thread before posting, please.

And again, it frustrates me not to run at 100 FPS because I'm highly sure my PC is capable of it, and something's wrong here. Also, my problem is not the freame limiter as I said previously, it's just I want to run the game properly as my PC could, and somehow I can't.

Why are you not satisfied with 50 - 70 fps?
Most people would beg for that framerate, it's quite amazing to get that framerate with such a PC seeing that it's not thát fast, as you might think sigh.gif

This. The human eye cannot process above 45-50 frames per second anyway, so an extra 50 frames per second on that is entirely superfluous. To be honest the biggest limiting factor is probably that your processor is too new for SA to exploit all its cores properly.

Update bios, and make sure memory timings are correct. Most bios will auto detect ram timings according to JEDEC specs
and for that, it may not run according to the settings it's suppose to run.
You may also want to force your CPU to run at triple or dual core mode and see if that makes any difference.
For the frame rate you currently have, you should be very happy with it.

As mentioned it is San Andreas not being able to utilize the CPU properly
A dead giveaway of a CPU bottlenecking is when you change setting and still get the same FPS.

I sort of understand why you want 100Fps, simply because you are an enthusiast proving a point, but i would not go to too much trouble to get this 100Fps.

Thanks for getting my point.
This is not for GTA only, as I said, I have an equal problem is Assassin's Creed 2.
Again, the reason for my "unhappiness" is because I know that my rig is perfectly capable of running this game at 100 FPS, as I've seen others with similar specifications running it properly. If you don't have anything better to say other than asking me why am I not happy with the framerate then don't post at all.

Anyhow, I appreciate the replies that have been given to this thread, keep them coming if possible! biggrin.gif

Can most games even run at 100 fps, I don't know about ac2 but I don't think that GTA SA even has 100 different frames in a second.

No it's not.
You might thank you have an über PC (you have a quite powerful one, though), but it's just not fast enough for IV.
This is just how IV works, my PC is quite a tad better than yours and even I can't run it at 100 FPS sigh.gif

But speaking about San Andreas, atleast turn off the Frame Limiter.
Besides that, maybe the one a few posts above me is right and your hardware is too now for that game.

Sorry, I thought you were speaking about GTA IV. My bad blush.gif

Quoted for truth. I believe it's actually something like 30 FPS, but higher than that still blends better between the processed frames and as such will appear smoother. But I think even that ends around 60 fps.

This. Updating BIOS is good for a number of reasons. Adjusting memory timing might not make a big difference if any in frame rate, but you'll see a noticeable improvement in system responsiveness no matter what you're using the system for.

With frame limiter disabled, any game can run at 100 fps.

Read the topic yo!

What I haven't seen anyone else mention is bloatware and background applications.
Go into task manager and kill iTunes, Steam, RGSC, PowerISO, or anything else running in the background that isn't needed. Background applications can eat up a lot of power.

While I concur that anything above 60fps (72, actually, seems to be the sweet spot in studies I've read) is pretty much fruitless, I think you may also find that your monitor is incapable of actually displaying it. tounge.gif Depending on what you've got, and what your refresh rate is set to, obviously.

Before you even bother with the number of frames per second, do this:
1 Start -> Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization -> Display
2 Click 'Display Settings' on the left then 'Advanced settings' just below your orientation setting
3 Click the Monitor tab and look at your refresh rate

Nearly all LCD monitors are 60Hz models. Some are 75Hz or 120Hz but they are usually much more expensive.
If you have a 60Hz monitor, realize that your screen will only refresh 60 times per second so any FPS higher is just a waste.

I had a similar problem and I think you may be having the exact same issue as I was. Go onto BIOS and enter the config menu then the display menu. Change 'Switchable Graphics' to fixed and see if it helps.

I tried to find that option but I couldn't, any suggestions?
