Really? I prefer to walk around at midnight, as it feels as if it has more atmosphere. I like stealing one of the helitours helicopters and flying over the city at 3 a.m. Seeing the buildings lit up is just awesome, and don't even get me started on Star Junction...

Oh dear. Finally a positive thread about GTA IV. Yeah, I already took a walk through the city sometimes. One I can remember good was in Bohan at night. It was raining hard, people were walking fast away. Some people with news papers over their heads. The atmosphere was just perfect in that moment and showed me again, why GTA IV has the best city. Liberty City was just great. Walking around Star Junction is nice. Offcourse, in the real Star Juction, the Times Square, more people are walking around but IV's rendition was good. Now talking about it... I should take a walk again.

Yes, i take a stroll around town all the time. Rockstar totaly outdone themselves with GTA IV. Simply outstanding. My only complaint is that i wish we had more buildings to go into. Or maybe have an oppertunity to rob a bank that doesn't require replaying a mission in the storyline.

I prefer daytime because of the sunlight casting dynamic shadows. There aren't any (for the most part) dynamic shadows at night.
That said, sunset with a few clouds is one of my favourite times. Except Star Junction definitely looks better at night.

Driving at night does give a good atmosphere though.
I wish Roman's taxi job (and black taxi) was available throughout the game.
There's nothing like driving across the Algonquin bridge and making small conversation with your passenger while JNR plays in the background.

I do it all the time. The first day i played it i was in awe just looking at everything, soking it all in.You gotta truly admire the work that was put into making a city like this.

I know its all opinion but it kinda pisses me off when people say that they don't like LC or that they should've done the setting somewhere else.I mean not only is it the best re-creation of NYC,but it's also the most realistic city ever done in any game imo.I mean you can really feel the different atmosphere in each section of the city and like they say it feels "alive",that was one of the things that really surprised me (not to mention the amount of detail put into the environment)And i know NYC has been done a million times already but no one did it justice like GTA 4.

I love walking Niko around at night. I love the street lights shinning down on the street below. See it shine down on the cars as they drive by. The lights on in the buildings. The car lights as they drive by.

The daylight is great also. I love seeing the sunlight casting shadows on the trees.

It really is amazing to see all the details of so much work they put into the scenery, both for day and night. It really does make a person think of detail to a game.

Walking Niko around at night is best for me. It especially goes goood with Glenn Frey's "You Belong to the City". Especially since this is Niko first night out in Amercia. It's like he belongs to the city now!

I wish more people would appreciate the small details like this. It makes me sick when people complain about GTA IV and all the stuff "taken out" from San Andreas. All these people can do is complain. Clearly, none of them can even begin to appreciate the incredible amount of work Rockstar put into bringing Liberty City alive. There are few games I can play for hundreds of hours and still see new, little details I had never noticed before. GTA IV's Liberty City is truly breathtaking. I cannot think of a single other open world city that can even come close to matching Rockstar's level of meticulous detail.

Sure. And every time I do it, I hear a new line by peds. Usually, everyone knows "Stupid Malaka." or "Cheesy Vagina."

But f.e. I walked across the street when a car had to hit the brakes because of me, hit the horns and yelled: "No Wheels, no rights!" or I bumped into another car and the driver angrily screamed: "Why can't ever someone crash into my wife!"

Agreed. It's funny you should say that. I feel with GTA IV most of the fun comes from doing things like this instead of being distracted by a heap of materialistic features.

I know it's hard to compare given technology differences, but explore any GTA III era city and then GTA IV's LC. It's clear R* went beyond what most developers would do and they put a lot of work in most games these days even tend to over look.

It really is a fantastic achievement which isn't appreciated enough IMO.

I have spent many hours walking around this virtual masterpiece. I still don't think any free-roaming game that's been released since can boast a city as deep and detailed as IV's.

I completely agree. If anything, it's kind of ruined the previous games for me in the sense that I can no longer have fun exploring the cities. I still play the missions and muck around with the vehicles but it's not the same as when I used to walk around Vice City and Los Santos and compare them with their real life counterparts. I did go back and play SA not long ago just to explore LS again and it pains me at how barren the streets seem compared to IV.

I do this quite often actually. I can spend an entire play session just wandering the streets and looking at all the sights. R* did a helluva job detailing this game.

I love this thread, IV is a masterpice much much better then any other GTA... I kind of feel sorry for Rokstar it seems there are many who don't appreciate IV, just because the stupid retardet features removed from San Andreas...

Yeah and since GTA IV is still the newest GTA it can still be played for all it's worth. Once V comes out IV will pass onto legendary status, losing its freshness.

I love taking walks around, maybe getting a cab to check out a place or maybe the subway, if there is something i wish i could do is to erase almost everything about GTA IV and RDR in my head so i could play them again and get that awesome feeling of freedom again.
