i can't climb to the ladders . i removed the controlMap.dat , it won't work

Have you installed any mods? Are you using a downloaded save game?
Have you tried climbing the ladder using the F key? Get very close to the ladder and then press F, and after about 1-2 seconds start climbing using the arrows. Have you changed your controls? If yes, try making them back default.
Generally, the key to climb the ladder is the same with the one that you use to enter a vehicle.

i'm changing my map into a vice city looking one so yes i made tremendous changes . but i don't see the link with the key mapping

yes i use joy to key program . but everything went fine until recently

Be sure you don't stand on the other side of the ladder, it might not work that way. If Niko doesn't climb from the first try, keep on centering him until he eventually climbs. Just have patience.

Try starting a new game, walk up to a ladder and try climbing up.

You probably caused this with some mod.

ok after several monthes with that bug , i managed to fix it using a files comparing program . the culprit is among these :

- GTAIV\pc\data\maps\props\residential\wall.ide
- GTAIV\pc\data\maps\props\street\misc.ide
- GTAIV\pc\data\maps\props\industrial\build.ide
- GTAIV\pc\data\maps\props\industrial\drums.ide
- GTAIV\pc\data\maps\props\industrial\farm.ide
- GTAIV\pc\data\maps\props\industrial\industrial.ide
- GTAIV\pc\data\maps\props\industrial\skips.ide
- GTAIV\pc\data\maps\props\industrial\storage.ide
