I am playing this game on a 2009 or 2010 Alienware M17x laptop, specs below..

GTX 260M
Core2 Duo @2.83ghz
4 GB ram
1TB HDD

I think that's all the main stats? Anyway, my issue is lag and things I can do to reduce it as I am getting enough where I feel like beating my computer to pieces.. Does anyone know how to squeeze more power for the game besides a new computer (Which I cannot afford right now). Maybe a mod or even advice on what to do to keep it from lagging so much?

Either get a new gaming PC, or use a lot of tweaks from over the internet to gain 2-5FPS w/o worse graphics.

I might just go back to GTA: SA as I can easily run that maxed out and with new graphics mods out there, I can make it look fairly well! I also miss flying planes..lol

This is pretty much your ONLY option, since you are on a laptop, as laptop cards cannot be upgraded easily-in order to upgrade a laptop, you would have to replace the whole motherboard(which that alone is $400+, according to a local PC Repair shop in the Gulfcoast area-back in 2007, so it more than likely is higher now due to inflation) plus replace the processor and ram...

However, like you said, you could go back to playing SA, as that PC WILL max. SA no problem...

If you lower your settings to Low/Medium and set the sliders at no more than 25 and turn ALL shadows OFF and lower the resolution to no more than 1024X600 and use Patch 4, you should get the game playable pretty well...also, experiment with the commandlines as well...

I don't know much about the command lines, I just know putting the video memory (I think) from 25.0 to 4.5 is BAD!!

On another note, I can't figure out why my game won't start when I try using first person driver.. Anyone know?

@OP: Don't set the video memory to 25. It will heat your CPU. Set it to 0.1 - 4.0. This prevents texture bugs. Also, as PrometheusX said, read my topics, try some tips to improve your FPS. If you don't get any point just PM me as I am the poster of that topic.

I have it on medium and reflection thingy at medium, water on low and shadows off.. I have the last patch, how can I get patch 4 back? I really don't understand the commandlines at all..

Where it says to save the commandline as "commandline.txt", don't do that, but save as "commandline", otherwise you will end up with commandline.txt.txt, which wont work.

You can make a shortcut on the desktop to the commandline.txt to easily change variables.

If you wish to get back to patch 4, you need to reinstall.

He means, in your graphics settings, turn vehicle density to it's lowest possible, which is 1.
