Well I know this is going to infuriate a few people on here biggrin.gif

While I enjoyed the empire strikes back the most of the Star Wars films it doesn't hold any special place in my heart like it does for many. Its was a technical masterpiece for its time and a great movie however Super to me was a fantastic indie film with a lot of heart. I laughed and I cried whilst also having a great time. I found the acting great and convincing and contains many of those "don't know whether to laugh or sit here in shock scenes" as well as creating a connection to the character. Star Wars was fun but I am just not a huge Sci-fi fan and I didn't have an emotional connection with any of the characters, simplest way to put it is "its not my thing".

Vote to Super (despite fighting a losing battle)

Star Wars is the most important movie franchise of all time, hell, possibly some of the most important movies ever. SW saw the rise of "the fanboy", where a group of nerd come togeth. It was never on this scale. It was one of the first big blockbuster movies, alongside Jaws, and began the rise of the modern Hollywood. Of course now putting SW on your product will probably decrease sales, considering how greedy corporations are lining up to jump on SW's mangled corpse and sell whatever fluids fly out but back when it was just two movies, it was the sh*t.

Empire Strikes Back was released when the movie series was at its peak. Its an awe-inspiring film, mixes action and drama seamlessly, amazing special effects for its time and one of the most famous lines of all time: "Luke, I am your father (and I am also a f*cking scorpion*)". After this, however, it was all downhill. Return of the Jedi traded in character building for action and wasn't as good, although its still a fine film, and then there was The Phantom Menace, oh hang on, I'm feeling sick... blaaaaargh.

*AVGN joke.

In a nutshell. To me, it was a budget, watered-down version of Kickass.

Well its nothing like kick-ass apart from the every-day man superhero part so I think the movie went pretty much over your head.

If anything its much closer to Defendor.

Ha, I actually thought it was Defendor we were talking about at first. I don't think the Kickass comparisons are so easily dismissed - particularly I you've read the comic. But I digress.

Empire Strikes back is pretty much the best science fiction adventure film to date - and this incredible because it's an homage to earlier films and serials itself. Yet no matter how many times its formula has been aped, nobody has been able to surpass the magic.

Super, on the other hand, is cookie cutter homage to the 'regular man' superhero story that one could argue was given fresh life with Batman Begins. We see a loser discover his super power: his antisocial nature. Not exactly fresh material. There are some great moments, and I enjoyed it far more than Defendor, but the intention is watery and the plot unecessarily corny.

Star Wars 2. Obvious choice.

I believe that almost everybody (except some deep Africa and South America. but they aren't counting anyway) heard about SW:TESB. Even if you haven't seen it you had to heard about it. This movie is well known from it's premiere, it got countless amount of fans and is still getting new ones and it's merchandising line is worth millions of dollars.

It's nothing surprising, because SW2 is very well made sci-fi movie and one of the best examples of "New Adventures" line of movies.

Super isn't so well known especially if you consider the fact that I haven't heard a word about it till this week. It is good movie, but it doesn't have the substance to become something better than action flick. Story shown in Super isn't bad, but it was done already, acting is good, but it won't blown you from your shoes. Super is great movie, to watch in evening in TV.

SW:TESB despite it's age will be remembered for many more years, Super was made in 2010 and I doubt if many people are recalling it now. My vote goes to SW:TESB.

Purely from the film point though Kick-Ass and Super are on comparable on a very base level i.e. being superhero movie about an anti-social loser but apart from that one goes into ott action with actual superhero characters (so it actually becomes a superhero movie) while the other stays grounded in reality (not completely but far more then Kick-Ass) and carries a completely different tone. Its like saying Godfather and Goodfellas are similar movie because there about gangsters. The Comic does deal with the "Kickass" character in more depth so I can see where you coming from with that comparison.

I knew Super was going down so I had to give it my vote lol.gif I just wish I could be into Star wars but it just never hit that action/adventure childhood love bone that the likes of Back to the future, Indiana Jones have.

How? It was more akin to a psychological drama given that the protagonist is clearly a schizophrenic.
No jetpacks or samurai sword duels.
Like I said, a character based drama. But whatever, it's always going to be misrepresented as an action flick so who cares?

Well as I said earlier then the film just went right over your head or you paid zero attention when watching the film.
Would you say Avengers and Dark Knight are pretty much the same as well ?

I'm simply correcting your wrong interpretation of the movie. You're welcome, by the way.

But let me cast my vote for SUPER. Get this, it was actually well written. It had dialogue that didn't sound as if it had been scrawled on a napkin by a retarded toddler. The story is not one of redemption, but rather a spiral into lonliness and damnation that results from the gleeful adoption of violence. The protagonist is already nigh on asocial, but by the end of the movie is reduced to the level of an unhinged misfit, living through another persons family. The costume isn't important, it's the mind, it's the story of how a sick mind latches on to the Messianic appeal of heroism and eventually self destructs because of it.
In the same way that Taxi Driver isn't a laugh-a-minute thrill ride, SUPER is also not a film designed to glorify violence but rather a way to show how that violence can give the worst of us a sense of entitlement and purpose that is both captivating and terrifying all at once.

Compared to this, The Empire Strikes Back is a simplistic, one note affair. Filled with dreary performances, cringe worthy dialogue and an overriding sense of absurdity that never quite abandoned the series. Lucas uses familiar story archetypes but lacks the talent to delve into real motivations and reasons for the characters actions. The Rebels are good, the Empire is bad. It's an overgrown version of cowboys and Indians. A light show which sacrifices plot intricacies for futuristic cliches and cod-mysticism.
I don't understand what you people see in the movie, I really don't.
However, I will concede that the introduction of Bobba Fett was a masterstroke.
