This is GTA, not "outdoor explorer party" for 5 years olds on the Wii.

anyone ever play Just Cause 2 on consoles? the size and scope and detail in that map was impressive, and that was 2 years ago made by a much smaller company. I truly think that the wilderness in GTA V will be more than we are expecting and make for some really exciting moments. Like Rambo, running through the forest with a dozen Cops on your tail. And because the cops incorporate Line of Sight into their search pattern, it should be very fun running through the trees and mountains. I always like getting 2 or 3 stars and running from cops and hiding and sneaking around LC before they found me. And along with the parachute, i think they should add a flying squirrel wingsuit that is easy to operate, so that you can fall and travel and do stunts at the same time.

I already mentioned on another post that in the rivers and lakes there should be canoes and kayaks that are operated just like the bikes, hitting the sprint button made you use the oar and it is possible to flip over and even go down waterfalls.

The map in Just Cause 2 by the way was 400 square miles and GTA 4 was about 6 square miles.

I think that when R* said surrounding areas in V, i think what they are trying to say was that SF and LV will most likely to return like in San Andreas second trailer with the other two cities revealed, which the first trailer didn't have, apart from LS

Disappointment awaits you sir.

Yes. On PS3 and 360, but I still think the map is too big and boring. Sure it looks nice, but what's the point of a huge map if it's as dead as a doorknob?

Anyway maybe it's just wishful thinking, but if somehow R* could give LS the urban feel justice like they did with LC and the rural feeling justice like with RDR I'd be very happy.

I hope it doesn't favor one over the other. It would be a shame if LS was full of life and going out into the countryside felt like going into a wasteland or vice versa. Though the former is more likely.

Basically I really hope the countryside/surrounding areas don't just serve as a filler. I hope both aspects of GTA V are given equal treatment.

The absence of radio stations in JCII made those redundant landscapes that much more tedious.

Yeah that probably didn't help, but even in RDR the countryside still felt as if it was occupied by other life.

Half the time in JCII it feels like I'm on another planet and only get reminded when I visit the city (which sucks IMO), roads and settlements or whatever.

I'll take a smaller map with a lot more personality than a really big one that might aswell be ridden of all other people.

I admit I was wowed when I first played the game and took a moment to look at the huge map. Unfortunately, the environment kept reminding me of how much it was just a game. Bland textures, ghost forests, repetitive environments didn't help.

For some reason, only R* is able to create games where every block has it's own unique character. Half of Assassin's creed looks identical, Infamous had its share of repetitive environments, Saints row seemed like it enjoyed using the same building over and over, and Just cause 2 was the worst in that lot.

Yet in RDR, I felt like each area was made after a real scenario. A fallen log here would never be repeated again, and so I could use that log to mark my whereabouts. Only in a R* open world game could you do that.

Hope the landscape is big, detailed and interactive. Not like JC2 which had beautiful graphics but there was nothing to do in it. Another factor which i think should be added is the number of sources by which we could earn our income in GTA:VC and GTA:SA. Taxi's, police,fire-brigade etc. One of the biggest disappointment for me in GTA IV was lack of these side missions. In the previous game when i ran out of cash i would do these missions just for fun(DOnt like to use cheats:D:)). Although in GTA IV cash was plenty. Nothing to spend it on.
Driving taxi's was quite a fun part in VC and SA. Wish i had it in GTA IV

I played JC demo, had to do stupid shooting mission so didn't get a chance to explore the countryside properly, but the size of the countryside was great. But was it interesting? Not at all. It was repeating over and over again, there was no life in the woods and it was jungles.

In SA, although the map was times smaller, R* managed to create a realistic atmosphere, varying from scenic to eerie, and it is just remarkable that the myths were actually very well received by the players.

I hope the night is really dark in the countryside so it will feel like a totally different game, more horrifying and lonely.

*BUMP*

I don't want this thread to die, I think having a thread discussing the wilderness/countryside is nice. Time for a discussion stimulating reply. I hope that the wilderness is done well, and pretty. Having rivers and/or streams would be nice, perhaps a waterfall somewhere smile.gif . I also hope that the camerea from SA will return, and hopefully you can upload any pictures you take to your HDD. That way you can roam around taking beautiful pictures and use them as wallpapers or whatever, and it'd be an activity to do. I also hope there are animals in the wild, so I can go hunting, even if it's not an actual activity. Gives me an idea, imagine one of those modern day hunting bows as a weapon, that'd be pretty cool biggrin.gif .

The countryside and wilderness aspect of the game is one thing I believe Rockstar will not disappoint us with. I'm excited to know if they make the countryside as interesting to explore as the city is.

This icon14.gif I hope that not too many cars drive on the highway because I want to drive as fast as possible with the car in my signature. wink.gif

If Red Dead Redemption is anything to go by with what Rockstar can do with an open countryside game then I'm sure we're in for a surprise! I'm still waiting for RDR to be released on PC (which probably won't happen!) so someone can mod it and put GTA IV cars into it. I'm fairly sure both games run the same engine so it wouldn't be too hard!

The myths were well received? I am confused, the myths were created by us so how could we receive the myth if we created it?

Yes, both games run on the same engine. With the difference that V will have a more advanced version of RAGE. And V will use a newer version of RPF-data. wink.gif

Well, OK, I'll rephrase it: the clues, given by the Rockstar caused thousands of players spending their time looking for stuff in the woods. Which is like empty place with nothing in it! How cool is that!
