So I was just thinking, like any other day, about how epic the map is gonna be for GTA V, specifically the country and wilderness, if there is any. I'm really hoping they go really in depth with the country and add various locations that we could explore; caves, cliff sides, forest trails, and maybe even underwater caves.

In the surrounding areas of these locations could be shops (some of these shops could also be found in Los Santos, each selling specific items that you could use within these areas.

Example:
*on the bottoms of cliffs and the mountains along the trails which lead up to the top, we could find a Hiking shop which would sell basic Hiking equipment which will give the player a little extra endurance when running uphill, or a variation of the armour you would get, except it's not armour but a "survival health pack". They could also sell basic hunting equipment if hunting is a part of the game.
* In various locations in and around the city could be general supply warehouses which would sell basic survival equipment, hunting and fishing accessories, and many other stuff. The hunting and fishing equipment could also be used as weapons against NPC's

Within these areas there could be mini games that could also be played with people on-line as well as your crew and friends in single player. Mini-games such as BMX races down the mountain, dirt bike tracks in the desert, Baja races, target practice. cave exploration, and many more.

there's an endless amount of things Rockstar could do with the Wilderness and Countryside. Let's just hope they don't disappoint us

I created this topic so we could just discuss what we could expect and what we would like to see in the Outskirts of Los Santos smile.gif

This is one aspect of the game that i'm anticipating most. I just remember having endless fun with San Andreas around the lil towns and mountains, can only imagine how much better it will be with better graphics, animals, bigger scale, better weather possibly lakes and rivers? and way more....Also that mountain in the trailer looks freakin unreal, imagine the base jumping capabilities.

I really hope there is huge forests and lot's of different places on the country side where you get the feeling of being somewhat lost like you kind of got in San Andreas. I think the addition of animals has also gotta be included in the game seeing as rockstar almost perfected the animals in RDR. I get the feeling some of those previous games are like a learning experience for them and it's all going to be put into one, and that is GTA V.

RDR was pretty much the perfect open world game. There's just a couple things it was missing....Cars and fully automatic weapons wink.gif Hello GTA V.

They will add the old countryside from GTA SA to GTA V as it's the same locations.

Most likely parts of Flint County and parts from Red County like Blueberry, Dillimore, Montgomery and Palomino Creek.

They might add some new stuff but nothing big.

It would be awesome if they took tall trees from RDR and expanded that by 5 or 6 times so that you could actually get lost if you didn't use your map icon14.gif

Yes, tall trees was awesome and definitely added a lot of role playing capabilities as well as the manzanita post where it felt like a hunting lodge. Im sure they will create something like this in GTA except a much bigger scale. One thing im hoping will be better though is the mountains, i hope they're as huge as they look in the trailer. Maybe have like a climbing activity where you can scale vertical cliffs? Instead of magically walking up the sides of them? That would greatly add to the realism.... Until of course you decide to launch off the mountain on a bmx tounge.gif

scaling vertical cliff would be awesome! it could also be used for scaling certain buildings which could be used for free running smile.gif

I really love this part of the game. There wasn't enough of it in San Andreas, and it wasn't immerse. I really hope they step it up and make the landscape interesting and fun to drive on

I hope that some parts of the wilderness are undriveable, so you have to be on foot for many miles. How cool would it be if you could leave footprints in the terrain, and in multiplayer you could use tracks to hunt down your victims. With abit of luck we might get an habitat similar to that of Red Dead, and possibly get the odd urban fox too. With the depth of detail put into the city in GTAIV on rather new console systems/PC, I expect to see, and sure we will get a world with vast detail.

Good thread, this is definitely what I'm looking forward too most

So check this out, regarding that theory about snow being present in the game, I took this picture yesterday on my way back to LA from Arizona, this was just outside of LA county IRL and you can see that there's snow at the top of the mountains, while it was 100 degrees on the ground! The snow thing is not that far fetched, this location was VERY close to the Palm Springs wind farm out that way, which I'm sure inspired the one in the trailer, so I'm fairly certain that they'll feature this type of snow capped mountain around there in the game

This is the one feature of the game that excites me the most! Basically what I'm hoping for is GTA San Andreas with GTA IV graphics and physics, but I KNOW Rockstar are going to do a LOT better than that. There was not enough free space in GTA IV. No where to really drive around and have fun doing jumps, crashing cars and rolling them down huge hills. I'm looking forward to taking cars off those massive mountains at top speed in GTA V. Hopefully the crashes are a lot more realistic too. Cars a way too bottom heavy in GTA IV, if you roll the car theres a 90% chance of it ending up back on it's wheels.

I'm also hoping for a wide range of wild animals in the wild. Can you imagine driving full speed down a dirt road through a forest then BAM! A deer jumps right out in front of you, getting cleaned up and causing you to lose control!

As much as I loved the free roam space in San Andreas, it was very empty and lonely. Not really much to explore but I know GTA V will give us a LOT more to do in the way of exploring.

Yeah, especially with the new sand effects we saw in the trailer.

I hope the countryside is twice as big in V as it was in San Andreas, the Countryside was the #1 reason why San Andreas is my favorite Grand Theft Auto game to date, cityscape gets so stale so quickly.

Also, I'm hoping for Trophy Trucks in GTA V, aswell as Baja Buggies and such to be able to have a fun Desert Racing colgate.gif
I'm also hoping for rocky terrain and un-even terrain somewhere for a fun little jeep ride

Not "They might add some new stuff", it's "They will add some new stuff".

GTA SA was a completely different era. I'm sure it's aged well but the countrysides of SA put into a modern game would look very out of place. Even if the names remained the same it would still be a completely different map, and a different universe.

RDR got it absolutely spot on.

I've been playing through the game for the first time this last couple of weeks and its just stunning. The entire map is beautiful, standing on top of a cliff and watching the sunset with wolves in the distance and random people on horses trotting along down below, if they could get it as right as the did with RDR, along with the brilliance of the city in GTAIV then it could be a quite special game.

Animals are a MUST. They really make the RDR wilderness creepier and more realistic. In RDR I rarely go out at night, I just go and play Blackjack or Liar's Dice, this is because if you're just out in the dark in those tall trees, and suddenly you hear the roar of a bear just behind you it proper creeps you out.
