As I sit here, having finished all my exams and preparing for a night out, with an ice cold cider in hand, the Ting Tings playing in the background and the slow fade of the glorious sunlight blaring in through my breezy open window, I realised how great life can be if you stop to appreciate all the little things in life. Whether they all come at once, like my current situation, or as a single ray of hope in your humdrum day-to-day they're always a little beacon of "y'know what? Life's pretty damn alright".

So what sort of things put a little smile on the faces of GTAFers? None of that getting a big promotion, graduating univeristy, winning the lottery sh*t, I'm talking cold beers in hot showers, the smell of new books and hot chocolates in front of campfires.

My favorite little things in life? Your mothers tits. No but seriously..

I live about 500 yards from Lake Erie and once the sun sets and the color of the sky changes over the lake, you really appreciate it. It might be the weed that helps, but still I really enjoy relaxing there.

-The smell of spring and the outdoors.
-A happy dog walking with it's owner
-An old couple still holding hands with love.
-The list goes on and on.

If it wasn't for 'The Little Things' I would have given up on life years ago.

IMO, appreciation for the little things is more important than the big things. The little things are usually the things that make us smile regularly.

It sounds a little odd, but that smell you get just after you've put a candle out.
That first bite or taste of something you've not had in years and instantly gives you a memory of good times.
Taking off your heavy boots after having them on for the whole day when its been hot.
Or leaving your boots on and this sounds really bizarre, sticking the nozzle of your vacuum down the side of the boot and your foot and turning it on, really cools your feet down.

I was on my bike late last night, cruising along a country road and reminded how much I love the fresh country smell in the spring and the still peacefulness of the landscape as I went flying by. Probably not a day goes by where I don't stop to appreciate the little things and luxuries I'm fortunate enough to have.

  • The Morning Sunrise
  • Feeding my stray cat
  • Putting on a fresh set of clothing
  • Finishing a programming project
  • Ridding my desk of dust
  • Taking a walk in an area/time where no humans are.
  • Setting free roaches so my live-in cats can't get them
  • Laying down for nap on Friday, knowing that I'll be able to sleep for 15+ hours.

When I was a kid I'd get this weird crust behind my ears that I loved to pick off, it was a bit like picking dried skin off, except it wasn't skin.

- Watching the stars on a clear summer night.
- Smoking a cigarette after shaboinka.
- My first cold beer of the day.
- Watching reruns of TV shows that first aired in the 80's.
- Eating pizza crust (Which most people don't do.)
- Riding my bike at night, feeling like I'm king of the road.
- The smooth skin you get after shaving.
- The smell of a bagel shop. (Yes, I'm a bagel-aholic)
- The feeling you get after taking a hot shower.
- The scent of pine trees durring the X-mas holidays.

Those are just off the top of my head.

I've always been a big fan of just sitting outside at night, looking up at the stars on a cloudless night and enjoying the peace that it brings. For some reason, no matter how sh*tty the day has been, or the situation I'm in, this always perks me right up.

Music also plays a massive factor, especially when I come across a song that brings back a wave of nostalgia.

I have always loved throwing something into a bin from far away and have it effortlessly glide in. So satisfying. That, and how good a cold beer tastes after a gruelling 12 hour night shift.

Sans the iPod and make it about 3 AM for me. Everything is so calm.

I've got a helluva lot:

- Sunrise and sunset.
- Sun rays shining through the front room window (for some reason this reminds me of my childhood years).
- Anything to do with nature (animals, plants, the countryside, gardens, etc.)
- A clear night sky.
- A bath after an awfully long and tiring day, accompanied with a good song on the radio.
- My pet cats.
- Snow and frost.
- Admiring a torrential downpour from the window.
- Decorating the house come Christmas time.
- Long walks.
- A good cuppa.

And the list goes on and on, but those are the ones high up on the list. biggrin.gif
What can I say? I'm easily amused.
