| QUOTE (BRITLAND @ Tuesday, May 22 2012, 15:09) | | These are so HD that im gonna go as far as call them fake, seriously how can you do that to pics from 100s years ago? | In 1915 the first full color cameras appeared. And their quality was similar to this one. They were just costly my friend.

I am confused. I wonder if this could be applied to some really old photos on the wall of the pub of the town i grew up in. |
Light can be broken down to red green and blue, when you capture just these 3 colors individually and put them together they make a full color image. | To answer his question: You can't. You need to actually have 3 different photos with the blue, green and red information.
The only way to make a black and white picture colored is by manually adding it.

[Supreme] | They are as fake as this World War 1 Pictures: http://www.worldwaronecolorphotos.com/index.html 1914-1918
When pictures are taken care of they can last hundred of years.

When pictures are taken care of they can last hundred of years. | Those look realistic, but the other photos look as if they're taken with instagram.

[Supreme] | It's mainly because of the technic they used to make them in Color. And the fact that they are 100 years old.

Also can anyone tell me what breed of dog this is? I haven't seen on quite like it, it looks similar to a Maremma...but not quite.

Since its Russia, and since it's so long ago, it's definitely a working dog. Maybe its a Caucasian Shepherd cross? You can get white Caucasian Shepherds which look very similar to this dog. Or maybe it's a Kurdish Kangal cross? I agree it looks like a Maremma (Had to Google the Maramma as i've never heard of it.) But yeah it definitely has some breed of shepherd dog in it, i once had an all white German Shepherd that looked similar to that dog. Maybe it's a Husky of some type? Considering the location and date, i really doubt they were breeding dogs to look cool but to serve no purpose. So my guess is that its a working cross breed. If it's a pure breed i'd like to know what it is. EDIT : It's ears are natural and not cropped, i think Marlowe. is right, Siberian Husky. Funny enough i have a Maremma crossed with Border collie + Kelpie, looks like a maremma except different eyes and his fur is strangely similar to a Husky.

| QUOTE (K^2 @ Wednesday, May 23 2012, 23:35) | | QUOTE (Chunkyman @ Tuesday, May 22 2012, 14:47) | | Why didn't more people use this photography technique back then?!?!? |
Because you can only use it for something that is perfectly still. Look at the water and the sky. They look messed up on these photos. Same with children. Keep in mind that the exposure time to get such high quality images had to be rather high to begin with. Finally, the only way to view these was with special projectors. Take all of these factors into account, and of the few people of the time who owned sufficiently good cameras to take these pictures, you are left with almost nobody who'd go to trouble to do color ones. | I am also sure a lot of people would not have realized the significance of taking color photos, the mindset then might have been 'Why bother? Who is going to want to look at my photo's? Besides i will never own a projector'.

BTW, HydraulicWaRiOr, another reason this photos look so great in quality is because they used Glass planes. And they were preserved with caution.
This picture is 150 years old:

What is that? The circular bottom part looks like a diamond, and the 2 oval objects look like blown up condoms. Neat though. | Looks like a ribbon to me.

These are some really interesting photos. I love this kind of stuff, seeing history in colour brings new life and a different way of looking at it. I stumbled across a collection of colour photos of Hitler's bunker after the raid. Some really striking images. Cheers for sharing, man. Also, just to add me two cents, that dog looks more like a Shepherd cross than it does a Siberian Husky. Husky's almost always have markings unless they're red and they tend to have smaller, less noticeable noses seeing as they're predators in snow. That dog has a long, narrow nose of a Shepherd.
