What do we think PC gamers will need in order to run gta v? Like, for it to work, medium and top end.
I'm currently changing my rig and wondered what everyone else has got in preparation for V.

It's quite hard to say. Considering GTA V wont hit PC's until probably mid/late 2013 I'd expect current mid-range systems to run it on lower settings, current high-spec PC's to run it on medium/higher settings and something like the 680 or a future graphics card for the highest settings. Complete guesswork, but I expect the game will really want some juice.

I don't think it'll be as late as you estimate but if you're right, then i suppose that makes sense. Soul destroying how quickly hardware gets outdated

I have a AMD Athlon II X2 240 (2x2.8GHz), 2GB DDR2-RAM and a GTX460 1GB. With that rig I'll play on low settings. But I'll buy some new hardware. Something like i5-3570K, 8GB DDR3-RAM and a GTX670 2GB or better a HD7970 3GB.

We're in the same boat. Atm I've got a pre-built PC with a GTX 460, but in a month I'm building a PC with a GTX 670 and i5 3570k.

Similar to Max Payne 3.. here the minimum specs:
  • Intel Dual Core 2.4 GHZ or AMD Dual Core 2.6 GHZ
  • 2GB RAM
  • NVIDIAŽ 8600 GT 512MB or Radeon HD 3400 512MB
  • 35 GB HDD

I am somehow worried about the HDD space.. I know I can't compare both games but still.. at least we can be sure GTA V won't be lower than 20 GB or so.

Well, i think the system requirements will be close to the following:

-Intel Core i7
-Nvidia Geforce/ATI Radeon with at least 2 GB dedicated!
RAM: At least 12GB
Hard Disk Space: 68GB needed...

Problem?

A game that runs on a PS3 and 360 really shouldn't have such astronomical requirements to run it at the same settings, or even worse ones. But, game developers find a way to make games less and less optimized each year so I expect GTAV's requirements to be as high or higher than Max Payne 3's. Which is just a damn shame. I'm talking about recommended here, not minimum.

It depends. If they don't do anything special to the PC version then they will be the same as GTA4's pretty much. If it gets the 'Max Payne 3 Treatment', that being DX11, better textures, etc... then it will probably need a GTX 570 to run on high or something. We'll be able to know better when we've played PC version of Max Payne 3. Because we can use that data and decrease performance due to the fact GTA5 is open world, again, assuming they give it DX11 and stuff.

I don't like them people that boast about there great rigs at every opportunity they have, but I have actually just upgraded from my old broken GTX 470 to a new GTX 680. And to be honest, Max Payne 3 and GTA5 amongst a few other games were the primary reason for doing so. I really hope this card lasts me atleast 2 or 3 years, it was damn expensive. But it is fantastic.

Aslong as the CPU requirements arn't ridiculous, then the extremely popular i7 2600k should be good to go for max settings. So many people have this cpu, me included, it would be stupid of Rockstar to make it need anything more.

edit:

On a sidenote, GTA4 is stupidly CPU dependent. The FPS increase was in the low single percentages.. no more than 5%, when going to a 680 from a 470. I hope GTA5 makes more use of GPU's.

I hope my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti will be capable of running the game at high settings. Well I think, that GTA V will be similar to Battlefield 3 in the area of system requirements. You can test if your PC is capable for Battlefield 3 here: Nvidia test
