There are always traffic laws that the local authorities generally overlook.

Ohio:

-Riding bicycles on sidewalks. So overlooked, I didn't even know it was a law until this last year.
-~5mph over the speed limit is generally accepted
-cutting through parking lots to avoid traffic lights (which really pisses me off)
-broken/burned out driving lights (see them every day)
-front license plates are only on 40% of the cars, though they are required

Anything where you live?

Years ago there was an article written about why Philadelphia is different. One of the bullet points was "if you are going through a red light, just honk your horn twice". Funny because it's true - happens all the time.

One thing about overlooked traffic laws around here is; The cops may not always enforce them, but the drivers and pedestrians have no issue with telling someone they are wrong.

As an EMT the two biggest I notice are people not pulling over for emergency vehicles with lights and sirens, and people not moving over a lane when we are parked on the side of a road or on the highway at a car accident or whatever. There's plenty of times I've been close to getting hit on the side of highways or busy city roads because of people not slowing down or moving over, which is why I'm a big supporter of that law and awareness for it.

Another one always overlooked is "Courtesy Light" laws for volunteer firefighters/EMTs. They must follow all traffic laws, cannot go through stop signs/red lights etc. But in the volunteer towns I've been through they do it all the time.

Last one is highway speed limits. For the most part they are usually 65, but people pretty much go whatever they want, cops will only stop you if you're going dangerously fast (Like 20+ above the posted limit on the particular highway)

Oh yeah, pulling over for emergency vehicles. I don't understand why people don't want to pull over for them. It seems like half the time, everyone pulls over, and other times, everyone feels they are exempt. I've almost gotten rear ended at least three times (I am still 16) because I stop, but the guy behind me doesn't. And highways, yes, everyone wants to go 80. I have noticed more recently that more people have gotten pulled over. At least the cops are doing their jobs. 90% of people in my school that drive are retards, for lack of a better word. They have been pulled over for going 40+ in the school zone, and f*cking brag about it. They have even made a facebook group for those who have a moving violation... I can't wait until one of them wrecks into me, just so I can let them have it...

Definitely cutting through a parking lot is one people don't really follow at all. I usually go close to 10-15 over the speed limit (30 most of the time) and face no problems. I go close to 50 at late night.

Pricks who sit in the fast lane on the motorway doing under or close to the speed limit.
Middle lane cruisers.
Who has the right of way when a car is parked on the street.
People who don't stop at zebra crossings.

Exactly, it's not hard to do. People drive about 10x worse when there's an emergency vehicle on the road. When they don't pull over, it's only putting everybody in more danger.

Another on I agree with that somebody mentioned is people going slow in the fast lanes. I see that a lot, but cops have been getting better about not so much pulling them over (They still do, not frequently though), but more just scaring them out of the lane. I've seen a couple times the state police here in New Jersey just getting up close behind somebody going slow in the fast lane, and if they don't move, they turn on their lights, follow the car through the lanes to the shoulder as if to pull them over, but finally when the cars in the slow lane, the cop turns off his lights and goes back to his normal business. I wish they would stop more people for that though. Going under the speed limit, especially on a highway, is just as dangerous as going over the speed limit

One of my biggest driving peeves. I could care less if someone decides to cut through a lot to bypass a light at an intersection, but I f*cking hate people that don't honor the layout of a parking lot. Just because there aren't cars in the spots doesn't mean you can just bee line from point A to B in the lot.

Oh and who the f*ck doesn't yield to emergency vehicles? Punch those f*ckers in the face and tell them to get the f*ck over.

People who use two parking spots for their precious car. They are somehow entitled to use more than other people. Is their car f*cking special or something? Apparently...

I once used over a dozen different parking spots at the same time. Actually on multiple occasions.

Front license plates are required in Vermont, but I see cars without them all the time.

When I was down in New Jersey last month, we were driving on the Pulaski Skyway, which is treated as an interstate. The actual speed limit is 35, but the cops can't pull anyone over since there's no curb; so everyone just drives like they're on the Autobahn, basically. I was on the PS for five minutes and saw seven people driving over 85 MPH.

I just got my license today biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I got a perfect score on both the road test and maneuverability (which I didn't even know was f*cking possible) and I didn't drive much different than I normally do...

On the way home, it seemed like right-of-way was just out the f*cking window for the other drivers... Almost rear ended someone who yanked out of a parking lot, almost got t-boned by someone who felt they would run the stop sign, and, again with parking lots, some black guy on a phone, cutting across parking spots, through a stop sign, in the wrong direction! almost hit me head on.

God, save me from these idiots.

If cops just sat in parking lots, they'd fill their quotas tenfold...

Here in Wisconsin, I heard some law was just passed that makes it illegal to be going under the speed of traffic. So if everyone is going 85 and you're doing 75 (10 over), you can be pulled over for not moving with traffic. Kinda of a weird ruling if I've heard one. Another one I see broken a lot is the License plate stickers. Jesus, people think it's for making a collage. I've seen them between numbers, ontop, all going around in a circle, it's a f*cking mess and bugs me for some reason.

I also usually see fake/no front license plates. I ran a fake one for 2 days to school once (It was for band) and the school officer was going to fine me for not having a front license plate/an illegal plate if I didn't remove it either.

Nah, nothing that small.

@Ronny - front license plates are homoghey. How are gonna run your 'Honk if you're horny' rebel flag novelty plate to match your chrome truck nuts if you have to run an official front license plate?

It seems like you have to be going at least 95mph in order to get pulled over on Southern California freeways. As long as traffic isn't jammed, 80-85 is the normal speed of traffic. The slow lane is going 75. Speed limits are usually 55 or 65.

It's a big change from the year I spent in South Carolina where you have to watch speedometer very closely. My dad got pulled over for going 49 in a 45. It didn't help that we lived in an area of small towns. The cops really don't have anything better to do than pull people over for no seatbelt, busted headlight/taillight/tag light, or speeding. Cruise control is your best friend.

Although not necessarily a law, tailgating, I see a lot. Earlier, I swear I was going to get hit from behind at every intersection by some rich arab who drove a BMW Z4 and talked on the phone the whole time.
