basically what i am looking for is a digital version of the old VHS recorders, where it has an input and output and it records easy. it doesnt have to have a usb stick i thought that would just be a nice feature.

they are hard to find and i have looked at VHS to DIdgital recorders because they work in the same way.

it can also be SD but i would prefere HD, something similar to the drawing below.

please guys give me lots of help and options smile.gif thankyou have a cookie user posted image

Without USB would be a HD PVR but that doesn't use a HDMI connector (uses composite cables iirc). Plus, it also will depend on the device since Xbox uses High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection meaning the signal cannot be split.

i dont mind composite cables because i will buy 2 sets of composite to composite cables and i just want the image to go to the recorder and be recorded but then go to the tv too. like the old vcr recorders.

and what is the range of HD PVR's out there?

The most common one used is by Hauppauge, I think they're around the $140 mark but you could find one cheaper on eBay though.

IMHO, external PVR are way too slow especially if it runs through USB. What you can consider on checking out is a internal PVR for your PC.

i dont want it connected and recording to pc, i want the little box to record it to its internal memory or a mem stick.

or for less than £5 i would buy a screenshot taker that takes screenshots, i dont even know if that exists lol but i would buy that.

It's not HDMI but it is component so the quality will be just as good
Hauppauge http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16815116074 - I'm not sure but I think it requires you to use a PC to do the actual capture and recording but it passes thru to your TV so you still get normal game play without any delay
AVerMedia http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16815100097 - captures to a USB stick/drive or has a place under the unit for a 2.5in laptop drive, the PC you'll move the video to can be in the next room or another country point being the PC doesn't have to be any where near by.

i like the second one but its pricey. ok so my desktop is the otherside of the room so i thought of this.

HDMI Splitter coming from ps3 output £2.99
one socket in splitter goes to tv, other socket goes to hdmi male to 3 rca £7.29
from the 3rca to a female to female connector £0.87
cable to go from female connector across the room £4.00
the recorder card attached to the pc £5.14

total cost £20.29 and possibly be able to get the parts for cheaper. records in SD

but will it work?

edit. found a cheap hdmi splitter and updated price. someone did tell me that you cant split the hdmi from a ps3 though .

Why not just go composite out of the PS3, split it to the TV and the PC and do the recording?
At least these way you can see the same crappy quality while you're playing that you'll be recording.
And that will work for sure.

I don't think you can HDMI record on ps3, not sure on that.
Of the two pvrs I would go the hauppage, heard many great things and I plan on buying one towards the end of the year.

In replacing an ATI All in Wonder, you can use their newer non Gamer variety cards, or go with a capture card for a small slot PCI Express, the open x1 variety, if you mean PC cards to add the feature, realize HDMI is audio and video, covering all channels and DTS/DD, as well you'll be dealing with Copyright embedding

I bought a used Tivo DVR DVD RW stand alone, I hooked up my camcorder to store analog onto HDD, though it can just as easily burn off a DVD for you, it noted one capture as Copyprotected, as such, it limited it to a time sensitive viewing, after about a week it deleted from storage! A real bummer, and it won't allow burning! This could be true of any DVR that does that feature, but it was kind of a shock since what I captured was a Cinemax type film from the early 90s that was edited on the source in bits and pieces, no longer a linear film, and it included a portion of an adult film, so rather bizarre, but it eliminats some material from transferring to digital in that regard

Actually after learning some information from a friend of mine, you cannot record with HDMI on the PS3, it's supposed to stop Blu-Ray Pirating, that is why you cannot, there is security software preventing it.

If you had an xbox you could record with HDMI, but i am in the same boat as you and will have to do with component,

HDMI is allowing digital encryption, I don't believe just any signal channeled out that way is protected. You guys laugh off LaserDiscs, let me remind you all, they NEVER once had Macrovision protection, they were perfect for Home Theater as such and making archival tapes from as well!
