I installed GTA IV yesterday. The first time I played it, it had a serious lag problem at the absolute minimum graphics. So I found a solution that, kind of helped, which is where you put a text filed called "Commandline" into the GTA IV folder; the text file says this:

CODE
-norestriction
-nomemrestrict
-availablevidmem "1.1"
-percentvidmem "100"

This makes the game play at a semi-acceptable level, but the average framerate is usually around 15-20 FPS; the only place where I get maximum FPS is the safehouse. These are my specs on System Requirements Lab:

I don't know much about "tweaks", but I know that Dr. John has a mix of them who alleges that it works. devil.gif

Is Dr. John in the house?

You shouldn't use those commandlines to force too high settings.

Apologies for the late post, but what command do you think I could use to increase overall performance? Do I have to play it in windowed mode too?

I use "-noprecache" without the quotes, it really helped me with lagg problems.
You can also use the "-memrestrict" line, I use it with my IV too.

But is it me or is that pc pretty weak?

I thought 3 GB RAM and a NVIDIA GT 240 was pretty powerful; maybe I'm wrong.

Anyway, I'll try to use "noprecache" and post the results here later.

Don't forget to use "-noprecache" (without quotes) instead of "noprecache" (without quotes) wink.gif

But about the PC, a GT 240 is quite weak, and that dual core AMD processor isn't going to do much better, especially with IV.

Some of Dr. John's medicine straight up from da hood devil.gif

It's helpful really

QUOTE
1) Try this:

CODE
-availablevidmem=4.0
-novblank
-fullscreen
-nomemrestrict
-noprecache
-framelimit

Make a .txt file. Name it as Commandline.txt. Play thye game and see if the textures return.

2) Did you patch your game? (Must be around 1.0.1.0-1.0.7.0) Do you have Xliveless? Here is a great tutorial about Xliveless: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=452840
You need it to play the game.

3) It happens with the older version of RGSC. It doesn't lets you to login. Click "Skip Login" to continue or else patch your game with the latest patch (1.0.7.0) There is another trick though:

Hope this helps. smile.gif

@Exxon: I know it's a bit late for this, but how the upgrade from your laptop? Was it more fun trying to get ENB working at the new PC or at the laptop? smile.gif

commandline option s a flare IMHO (not pejorative) . it works but if you play during hours , soon or later the problem'll come back again confused.gif . i mean or the game works or it doesn't but generally when a game doesn't work , there are no other solutions than the hardware upgrade . i think in your case the problem is clear , buy a new cpu . i'm sorry but seems you don't have much choice . with recent high end rigs we canno't play with full settings on so .. . and don't buy a 1000 euros cpu neither , it won't be much useful with GTA smile.gif

This is the code I just used:

CODE
-nomemrestrict
-availablevidmem "2.0"
-percentvidmem "85"
-novblank
-dx9
-noprecache
-framelimit

It worked a little, but not really. I guess my video card is just too weak. I'll probably go back to Vice City soon.

Actually, I think in your case, it is more the Processor and not so much the Video card? An Nvidia 240 w/ 1GB vram, should be enough to at least run IV at low settings(maybe even some medium)... confused.gif If you are able to OC that processor, you *might* get a little better performance, as it says it is only 2.1GHZ right now, which is below minimum for the game, as it says the minimum for AMD Duall Cores is 2.4 GHZ or higher..?

Also, Why is there more than one Social Club screen?-as the one seen in the last video is the one that comes up when my computer starts up..and yet when I launch the game, a totally different Social Club screen comes up..Yet, when I launch the Retail(DVD) version(bought from Wal-Mart #1362 when the PC version came out), the Social Club screen never comes up? Just curious on that one.. confused.gif

Note: No, i'm not trying to derail the topic tounge2.gif , I was always curious about that, and since it was mentioned in this topic, I thought it was better to ask here, rather than create a totally new topic..?

Those numbers shouldn't be surrounded in quotes and there is no dx9 switch.

I modified it, and this is what it is now:

CODE
-memrestrict 734003200
-availablevidmem 1.8
-percentvidmem 50
-novblank
-noprecache
-framelimit

However, it still runs pretty slow. Is there any way to upgrade my processor without spending money?

You mean OCing, but it'll just cause more problems.

A new PC is the only solution, sorry.

The first social club screen that comes up at game start is the old social club client, which is not needed if you run 1.0.6.0 and up , as that patch contained a new social club client (the one you see when you actually run the game).

Unless you are also using an older patch in parrallel, you can savely remove the old social club client via the control panel.
