I can't blame you for feeling this way, TPFS. This is an active group that were still on top of their game and to have this ruin it all... I have not been reduced to tears or anything but I feel shook and just something about me is off at the moment.
I'm so shocked that I don't know what to say, and I just enjoyed listening to Paul's Boutique and Licensed to Ill back to back. Still loving it, I enjoy their music even more now as I celebrate a great discography and they went out in style last year.

I don't think Hip Hop or Rap when I think Beastie Boys, because they were a hybrid offering punk and jazz influence, along with metal and world beat/music
Truly a bit of everything. Hope to hear Mikey aka PCGuytech also sound off, since he's a NYC boy who knew the band rather well.
I suppose if he's heard, he's in shock and mourning. Considering I lost my good friend Earl Root to a 10 year bout with Cancer and he was born in 1962, it doesn't sound that uncommon, but Earl had also not made his ailment a public thing, and only the last few years we saw him losing most if not all his hair and knew it was chemo
Beasties Fight for your Right from License to Ill was a record in our home, offering Slayer's Kerry King the lead riffs Also paying homage to Pink Floyd's Live at Pompeii, they really gained acceptance from a wider array of music fans. Add that Sabotage is pure brilliance to this day, music AND visuals

Feels weird knowing that one of the Beastie Boys is dead.
It honestly is weird. I've listened to them since I was little, my brother showed me who they are. It doesn't seem real. I remember when he was first diagnosed and refered to it as 'just a pain in the ass' and made it seem fine. Life is crazy, makes me want to step up my game when it comes to living.

Just like comic Denis Leary has stated; "There's no cure for Cancer", still.....
I did hear there maybe a break on that front, small, but significant in finding a way to prevent cancer, I can't recall the details, but it was reported on this year.
It's hard not to attribute something to the notion that if they could cure things, there'd be a hit on the medical industry and doctor professions, and it's not in their best interest to have people healthy. As we face health care reform, you can see abuses reported just about everywhere in the Industry
Anyway, this was a shock since people weren't really aware. For me, just watching some Heaven and Hell without Ronnie James Dio, a high honor it was to meet him in person!
