Will they keep this classic feature?

Theres no denying this will be an asset. One of the things that makes GTA what it is.

Here is something I have found which could be one possible scenario. I'm from the UK so I don't know much of the topic but there were apparently mud slides in LA some time ago stopping people from exiting certain areas...

user posted image

when i visited yosemite i was diverted by landslides. would be a good way to block off roads. doesn't stop you walking round though ha. to be honest the first trailer spoilt us showing us so much of los santos unlike earlier games' first trailers(except SA). my bet is there is definately other cities. maybe not as big as los santos but definately other cities. in san andreas having three cities sort of gave meaning to going through the countryside as a destination to get to. more than likely bridges being blocked will return. otherwise there will be no other way of blocking parts of the map that would work well in my opinion.

sounds daft but the thing that makes FREE roam games good is RESTRICTIONS. GTA always seem to do it right feeding you bits of the map at a time

I agree It’s part of the magic of GTA like others have said, aside from beating the game, I was never so satisfied in past GTA’s as I was when I unlocked the next map section, kept the game fresh, and gave me new things to discover.

I can see them blocking other sections especially if there are other cities arround the size of Alderney in IV, or bigger. (I think LS is gonna be the bigest if there are others.) Not to mention smaller towns to.

I always enjoy trying to make it through the unlocked/ restricted areas at first, to just get a glimpse of what's to come. I like to see how long I last while in the unlocked area.

I think at least since San Andreas Rockstar knows people have fun making a game out of testing the borders and being a fugitive in the forbidden zone. No reason to stop now.

I'm not sure it actually requires separation by a body of water. That's sort of an obsolete idea from when the protagonist's inability to swim was an element of the barrier.

I'm in favor of having to progress in the story in order to unlock different parts of the map. However, I have always been bad about snooping my Christmas presents, so I'm probably going to hop on line ASAP to do a little exploring before I get too far into the game. I've been needing some rural GTA in my life.

Imagine if they didnt show any other cities at all, thrn the game was released and the map only showed the areas we know about, then after a certain mission the map zooms out to reveal a whole other part of the map behind the mountains

That would be a good suprise wink.gif

I hope that they do keep part of it locked for a while. It's what makes the game great in the early stages of it. I always find it exciting when you're playing and are waiting to unlock new parts of the map. You never know what else you're going to find.

I hope they keep this formula, it makes perfect sense and doesn't need to be changed. Maybe there could be a cheat that would allow you access to all the map right from the start, but that's exactly what it would be: cheating. Let R* show you the map in the context of the game's unfolding storyline - remember how it felt being dumped in that Angel Pine trailer park for the first time, after all the crazy stuff went down in the last Los Santos story mission? And then driving into San Fierro for the first time and seeing all the new buildings? It felt like a fresh start. This is the way to do it - R* get you emotionally invested in the game so that you feel like you're actually that character, discovering a new area for the first time.

Now, since it is just one city and the countryside,

Sorry, buy where does Rockstar ever say it will be just one city? I'm almost convinced we'll be seeing more cities, maybe not San Fierro or Las Venturas but certainly other cities and I hope they restrict these other cites just like in previous GTAs, makes it so much more exciting when you're in a mission and you suddenly are told to drive to new areas and you see them for the first time. For example in San Andreas [SPOILER] the mission where you burn Truth's plants and drive to the city, it was in the middle of the night and the San Fierro skyline in the distance was lit up and at the time it was something to marvel at and then Truth goes "There she is brother, San Fierro, the city of the future" and there I was driving on the highway first time seeing the city. That was one of the most magical moments I've had in GTA. Sorry if I'm rambling here but this is why I want restricted areas because you get that excitement that other games can't deliver.

I liked in older games how it was actual achievement to unlock new island and then explore it for new interesting locations but in IV in Freeroam city was unlocked at the begining so it lose its purpose, will see how they gonna do it this time. Also Southern California is compact area with out some rivers and bridges so who knows how it would be now.Maybe they include part of Mexico like in RDR and include some border related missions of smuggling.

NOW THAT I LIKE! devil.gif

Wildfires are an excellent idea. I would be shocked if it WAS'NT used to lock early parts of the map. I would also add riots in certain areas due to Occupy Wall Street type movements as well. Perhaps the wildfires could be set by these protesters, which could then get a backlash from save the earth type groups who start rioting themselves, in response to the Occupy Wall Steeters starting those wildfires. It would certainly fit in with GTA type satire, as well as in keeping with it's already confirmed modern setting based on the financial crisis.

Reading responses, wildfires and natural disasters seem the most popular choices, would be great to see the horizon engulfed in flames lol. I think the most likely, and fun addition, would be quakes, it would be easy to add a crack in the game world and would explain the dangers of trying to take off in aircraft. sigh.gif Earthquakes could also happen randomly in the game, it would be crazy lol. I don't know if it would be possible, maybe just a few cracks on the ground and broken pipes. smile.gif

This sounds like a great idea. The one problem is will there be a big barrier all the way across? What would stop us from driving off the road and around the block?
