QUOTE
Long rumored and much anticipated, The Elder Scrolls Online is finally being unveiled in the June issue of Game Informer. In this month's cover story we journey across the entire land of Tamriel, from Elsweyr to Skyrim and everywhere in between.

Developed by the team at Zenimax Online Studios, The Elder Scrolls Online merges the unmatched exploration of rich worlds that the franchise is known for with the scale and social aspects of a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Players will discover an entirely new chapter of Elder Scrolls history in this ambitious world, set a millennium before the events of Skyrim as the daedric prince Molag Bal tries to pull all of Tamriel into his demonic realm.

"It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years," said game director and MMO veteran Matt Firor, whose previous work includes Mythic's well-received Dark Age of Camelot. "The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."

An in-depth look at everything from solo questing to public dungeons awaits in our enormous July cover story – as well as a peek at the player-driven PvP conflict that pits the three player factions against each other in open-world warfare over the province of Cyrodiil and the Emperor's throne itself.

Platforms are PC and Mac only.

So, yeah. I don't think I'll be alone in saying I feel apprehensive about this. First of all, it's not developed by Bethesda and the studio I believe is unheard of/new. Yes it's called The Elder Scrolls and within the lore of that world, but it'll be interesting to see how similar it is to the main titles in the series. Or will it just be a WoW-like experience?

Awesome, can't wait to read up on it... Though I do get a bit nervous everytime an MMO comes out that I may possibly like... So easy to spend too much time playing them :S

All the provinces of Tamriel.
Beth Soft not developing (as to not impede the next Fallout).
Already been in development for years.

Now all I need is confirmation that it isn't like WoW and I'll consider purchasing it already.

Anything you have to pay monthly for isn't worth playing. (I'm guessing you'll have to pay a monthly fee )

I'm intrigued. But I get bored of MMO's very fast. I only played WoW for 2 months before I got so f*ckin' bored of the damn thing. And if they're planning a subscription based paying model I won't even touch it. If it's like Guild Wars 2 I'd be willing to give it a shot.

It may not have that Bethesda touch, but then again, Skyrim didn't either (in feel/depth). I'm going to give the new developers the benefit of the doubt. Is anyone else just excited we finally get to see Black Marsh? And I hear Valenwood is beautiful as well, it sure looks it from across The West Weald. Still, I'm envisioning the return of Medium Armor and Spears. More customization will be a must for an MMO, right? Good fun guys.

I've never played one of these MMOs. What do you reckon the camera view will be like? A very panned out 3rd person, like a real time strategy game, or 1st person? I just can't see myself getting it tbh. That subs fee puts me right off.

It's cool that they set it a mellenia before Skyrim so the singleplayer game can still advance onwards.

I however feel skeptical about this, mainly due to lack of information, which as I understand we'll get more of tomorrow. I can't imagine TES series becoming an MMO, while the notion of having to explore whole of Tamriel (if that's even gonna be possible) is absolutely awesome, I just can't wrap my head around of it being an MMO... If the gameplay will change to a third-person perspective button mashing aka WoW mode it really won't feel like TES for me anymore, the huge factor of TES being TES is the first person combat (Lets be honest, who plays it 3rd person view...), having skills that you need to execute in order to fart or grin at a monster like you're missing a few chromosomes so it runs away would ruin it for me.

Unless they kept the sort of active combat style as it were in Skyrim, only with a few tweaks on how to execute certain moves.

Now then... I wonder what kind of subscription model will it be, if it'll have any that is. As a long time WoW player I didn't mind the subscription model until recently where I paid money to not have fun and feel like I wanna strangle a bitch. Thus why I pre-purchased Guild Wars 2, but if it's like GW2 where it's pretty much Buy to play then that's bloody brilliant.

...

Come to think of it though... I already occupy myself with multiple MMO's, it's kind of hard to have more than 2 MMO's that you can keep up with.

I've no idea what I just wrote.

Very. And I agree - Skyrim did not feel like a Bethesda game at all to me. I completely stopped playing it after two week's of release because of the lack of appeal. And I waited almost six year's for the damn game, too.

I hope this isn't going to turn out to be another WoW copy. This is actually something I've waited for a long time to be unveiled and I really REALLY hope they don't f*ck it up.

Can't wait to see a gameplay clip. icon14.gif

Yea, I'm more curious at this point as to how it's going to look and feel before I can invest genuine enthusiasm for it. Both Fallout and TES have always seemed ideal for a MMO type game with their expansive enviroments but to some degree their strength has always been rooted in the single player experience.

If anything, I would opt for more of that but with in game options for co-op dungeons you can run with friends, without worrying about thousands scurrying about on a server chasing the same loot as you.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I imagine the beast heads are to represent the game's three factions. Curious to hear more about those, and indeed an explanation as to why the dragon has his tongue up the griffins poop shoot.

Well if they can maintain a Elder Scrolls "feel" and (obviously) maintain the lore... it's already endlessly better than WoW.

Excited for this one. Was figuring about buying and investing time in SWTOR but eventhough I liked the short "test plays" I did at a friend's place, I backed out and didn't go for it (not enough time + there were other epic games).

This could have a chance tounge.gif.
