I always here people saying they don't want the whole gangsta theme cos the don't like it and that's cool because not everyone has to like the same thing. The thing what bothers is they never say what they actually want. So for all the people who don't want the hood feel, what kinda of theme do you want?

Collateral / HEAT / Crash - multiple stories of different characters intertwining to give a expansive , all encompassing taste of LA and its inhabitants. Or the expected bangers ..SUWOOOP!

I don't want a "theme" really. I would enjoy being part of a small group who just takes down drug organizations and robs banks for money. If it's a theme, I guess you could call it the A-Team theme.

For one, there are literally millions of themes and they can coexists. The 'gangsta' theme is overdone by many games such as SR IMO.


What I personally want?

Corrupt politicians and corporate execs. (media & banking industry to be specific) with a drug cartel theme as a backdrop to the story line.

Protagonist with...
-connections (politicians, friends from early years, friends from prison, family, etc.)
-knowledge (military, college, street smarts, etc.)
-criminal history/experience (prison, record in other cities, etc.)
-ambition (what Niko lacked...Tommy and CJ had)

It won't be back...it's over? from where do you know that exactly? ...anyway,i think whatever it will be,it's going to be good and it's going to be new...so we'll see,it can not be said that it wont be something we've seen ,but presented in a different way,and im fine with that...i mean,that's LA i expect there to be stuff with gangs,mafia,corruption and the whole package so to say...that's Rockstar ,they can troll everyone whenever they want and however they want so we will be experiencing something new in a certain kind of level for sure,like they said it.

I do not want another predominantly 'gangsta' theme, only because we had that already in San Andreas, and that was done brilliantly. And I certainly do not want a Mafia theme because it would not make realistic sense to have them in an Los Angeles-based setting (The Mafia hardly exist in LA). I just want a nice mix of everything interesting and exciting to see.

I want the protagonist to be a young-ish male (mid/late 20s) and a ruthless, opportunistic freelance career criminal that has street smarts and intellect and he should have connections, dealings and encounters with all different kinds of crime groups - wild, trigger-happy street gangs, homicidally vicious and very powerful drug cartels, low-key, but deadly, cunning mafias, crazy biker outlaws and others that may be relevant.

I also wanna see the protagonist come across very corrupt and nasty uniformed police officers and special detective squads, LA-style (The Shield, Training Day anyone?), corrupt, double-dealing politicians, shady, but ruthless rich businessmen/tycoons, sleazy movie/entertainment industry big shots, and again many more stuff that I cannot think of right now.

I would also like for the protagonist to be able to build up his own gang, I don't care which kind, just one to help him create his own criminal empire.

Well, considering the game is set in Los santos (LA) i think the gangsta theme would suit it best

Pretty much. But if I was to give examples, considering the protagonist may be a family man, an organized crime story like The Soprano's could be interesting.

But I'd prefer they went with something a litte different, perhaps focusing on the drug cartel like Breaking Bad.

I also think the events that occur in the movie Drive would fit into the game perfectly, I hope Rockstar makes some sort of reference to it.

I'm fine with the game having a gangster theme in it, I just don't want to play as a gangster. But my interpretation of the first trailer is that it's going to focus on a wealthy character, and the contrast between the rich and the poor.

For a change i like to see mexican cartels definitely, of course gangs should play significant part since most of gangs are cartel's foot soldiers. Our protagonist should be newbie gang member with military background (yea it's done before) to support his weapon handling (since we will kill dozen enemies in some missions). He should start with his small crew, then start to expanding dealing more drugs, weapons, eliminating opposition. But he and his crew should work for cartel for most time. HE should then have a choice, to work for them or get rouge and start taking over Los Santos and finally own city like Tommy. Well something like this would me great...

Oh and last mission raiding cartel villa in Mexico, that level could be specifically designed to be last mission.

Judging from past GTA's R* doesn't repeat story archs at all, so that's why I can definitively say it's not coming back, at least not in the sense that the OP means, not the hardcore 90's banging for my color "gangsta" theme. I think gangbangers will be back but I don't think the protagonist will be one, R*'s much more creative than that

I'm cool with the gangsta theme. It isn't used all that much in gta. But i definitely don't want the italian mafia to involve this time especially as it's LS. That has been overused in various movies and gtas too. Russian mafia is ok as that concept is still fresh in gta.

Soldier of fortune / Mercenary theme would be good. IF they have a connection to the missions. I don't want to play as Niko who only wants the money. I want there to be a personal gain besides the money to each mission.

Yeah odds are we will be seeing little to no Italian Mafia in V, they don't do much over on the west coast.

What we might be seeing are, Cartels, Street Gangs, maybe some Asian Gangs like the Triads (not to many) and maybe some Russian mobs. Biker Gangs might also be featured to some extent since they seem to be everywhere, and allot of real life Biker Gangs, have chapters nation wide. Not to mention odds are we'll be seeing the usuall courupt poiticans, and police officals too.

Seing as how much u want the protag to be the spanish fella, dont u think it would be cool to have a cartel type plot
