Didn't follow the topic much, so excuse if this got mentioned, but what happened to the 'Best Signature' poll? Apart from Worst Username, it was the only other category I got a nomination for. I feel robbed. sneaky2.gif

Well, Ryan said in this post, answering to the same question asked by goin-god, that it'd start a lot of confusion, so they scraped it.

QUOTE (Ryan @ Apr 28 2012, 19:40)
@goin-god: We scraped it cause many people just gave names and it's rather hard to figure out if they are talking about a persons current signature or a past one or which one if the person is using a rotator.

Ah, thank you, matey. As I said, haven't being following the topics much so wasn't sure if it had been mentioned already or not. Sounds fair enough to get rid of that one.

QUOTE (Ryan @ Sunday, Apr 29 2012, 19:14)
lack of nominations in the modding category

I think you have a major mistake in your Annual Award structure when it comes to the modding section. You shouldn't give the responsibility for mod nominations to the members.
Maybe it would be more effective if modding nominations would be prepared only by officials, a selection of officials or even a commitee made of selected trustable members and staff members for supervision.

Yep, that's right. Modding nominations should be prepared by a group of trusted modders, which would be more fair and effective.

Choosing of nominations by staff would defeat the purpose of having public nominations in the first place. The most we can do is filter out incorrect nominations.

And how many trusted modders have actually posted in the nominations topic? If you guys are genuinely bothered about certain deserving mods not featuring in the awards, it won't hurt to take the initiative and nominate such mods yourself. You're allowed to make more than one nomination so there's no hindrance. If an appropriate mod is nominated, we'll definitely consider it for the awards.

To some degree this is actually being discussed for next year should there be one but as Girish said the main and most effective way to have these nominations come to light is to post them during the nomination part of the process, to be sure.

Well, the nominating and voting system is pretty easy. I actually have no problem with that. I have nominated what I want to.
But as I read Ryans previous post I wondered! There are still people who have problems and start moaning? Then my final thought was to keep away nominations from those - probably - just lazy members.

If you don't think there is any improvement necessary on the Awards structure this is ok to me. icon14.gif

No matter what changes we make, there will always be a section that will moan. I think the current setup is fine.

In my opinion, there are some things that should be fixed. For example the modeling categories should be changed a bit, because a mod could possibly win in both categories. Also a modder can filter the modding nomination better than a mod. So what I am trying to say is that a modder would be able to help the mods and prevent some mistakes.

We don't need to appoint dedicated modders to offer suggestions. You're more than welcome to PM/post your suggestions/improvements (with justifications, if required) during the nomination stage and we'll take them into consideration.

Ryan and I were the ones that took all the nominations from the topic in this section and tallied up the nomination results. I did the nominations that were on pages two through five. When it came to the modding awards, since I knew nothing about them, if there was a nomination and a link was provided (as was stated in the rules), then I included it in the list of potential candidates. At the end of the day, Ryan filtered the nominees to get the final list; it might not have been perfect, but he did give it his best shot.

It might be frustrating, but you have to remember two things: (a) all the work put into this is volunteer; (b) we're all human - we are allowed to make errors now-and-then. Nothing is going to be perfect, but we do try our best.
