| QUOTE (Don Garcia @ Saturday, Jun 16 2012, 08:49) | | My f*cking heart actually started beating faster the closer he got to it. But....he couldn't fly it. Comments said it was out of fuel. Bummer, but still tense. |
I'm telling you this game is gonna give me a f*cking heart attack! Today I logged in near Balota in a big bush that's near impossible to see someone in (always smart to log out in safe places). When I logged back in later I noticed my hunger / thirst were flashing red so I popped open a can of beans and soda to replenish. Unluckily, there was a fella close by who must have heard me open my goods. I could definitely hear someone close to the bushes I was camped in, slowly hearing him move closer and closer. Since I had a near invisibility advantage I decided that I'd stay there and wouldn't move in hopes he'd just f*ck off after not seeing anybody. There was a long 10 second pause where all I heard was complete silence, when suddenly the guy fired an entire clip of full-auto M4A3 into the bushes and I heard the bullets cracking through the leaves and wizzing past me head. My heart began racing fast as I hurriedly pulled out my gun and did my best to dodge the near point-blank fire. I jumped out of the bushes, saw him prone on the ground, and fired a few shots. I got lucky and shot him in the head. He was dead and I was alive. Barely, mind you. I took some painkillers and morphine to ease the pain, and bandaged myself up to complete the wound healing. In a span of 3 seconds I was completely calm to full-on heart pounding "sh*t sh*t sh*t" panic mode. This game really does bring out emotions. This game really does bring out emotions. | Intense. I wish I actually had this game, but it's fun enough just seeing the experiences of people playing it.

It's easily worth the $30 man, you should consider it! Technically, you can get it all for $20 if you get the ARMA demo. DayZ is extremely difficult in its current state but it seems to have so much depth. I spent ten hours yesterday commando rolling past zombies in towns and looting buildings. Only found a rifle - NO AMMO THOUGH It's great that the developers of the mod are actively updating it and listening to the community. If any AU players want to struggle together with me, send me a pm! Edit: Another hotfix! 1.7.1.2 adds melee weapons and fixes a few bugs - woo! | QUOTE (The Killa @ Tuesday, Jun 19 2012, 16:57) | | I've been pretty pissed off with rocket now, the 1.7.1.2 patch was littered with bugs and glitches, did he even f*cking test it before releasing it? I lost a PDW with 5 mags and I crashed the server just because I wanted to pick up a hatchet to cook some meat. What is this, the second patch in a row with game-breaking bugs? And why does rocket insist on releasing half arsed, untested features to the game whilst ignoring the fundamental problems with DayZ that are still unfixed? | If it's any consolation, he's updated a hotfix with 1.7.1.4 now which I believe fixes the bug you're mentioning. It's also still in Alpha man... and every hotfix is internally tested before release. Hotfixes are also optional downloads, so if you want a relatively stable build keep to 1.7.

| QUOTE (The Killa @ Tuesday, Jun 19 2012, 20:19) | | It being an alpha does not negate the fact his continuing insistence on releasing broken, somewhat senseless features that make the game utterly unplayable while he continues to ignore basic problems like zombies still seeing / attacking players through walls, connection problems, more instances of hacking, so on and so forth. |
Uh... yes it does. I'm sure you understand the simple concept of stages of development but in case you don't understand; the game is in an extremely early build and bugs are guaranteed to occur. It's not as simple as selecting a line of code and automatically "fixing the problems" - I'm sure if he could, he would. I'm not trying to defend the game or developer but really man, what do you expect? You haven't paid a single cent for DayZ so he really doesn't owe you anything. If you cant handle the bugs and glitches that are occurring (and will continue to occur as he attempts to fix other bugs..) just wait a few months until the mod is in a more stable state. Or just wait a week or so, because it seems Rocket is pumping out the bug fixes extremely quickly anyway. This thread pretty much sums it up: | QUOTE | First off, I want to thank everyone who had contributed to making this one of the most fun (&successful) mods out.
The "f*ck this I'm leaving, Rocket screwed it up" post's are really wearing thin. We're part of the development team as testers, it's our job to find bugs and report them..and if we have fun in the process, awesome.
One thing you should know about coding is, when one error is fixed...twenty more are likely to pop up, and it's our job to find it. Rocket and his team can't possible find every bug during their pre-release testing..that's where we come in. Our player numbers right now allow for weekly updates. This many players means more bugs discovered and remedied. I can understand how it can be frustrating to be having a blast, and a new update bugs something you enjoyed. Suck it up, report it, and expect an update soon. Other titles release quarterly updates, be thankful you won't have to wait months for hotfixes.
Now, with that said, those who threaten to leave...either do so..or stick around and help find the bugs and exploits so they can be fixed. The more players that report bugs, the faster beta comes and the faster a final release will be here.

Bugs or no bugs, this is still one of the best and original games I've played in years. This post has been edited by Remix on Wednesday, Jun 20 2012, 02:07

Bugs or no bugs, this is still one of the best and original games I've played in years. |
If your first response is "b-b-ut it's an alpha" then you immediately lose any validity of what you're talking about. I am completely aware of what an alpha is, and of course am I completely aware that bugs will exist in large quantities. Are you suggesting that I was seriously expecting nothing but absolute perfection? What really got on my tits, however, was the fact that he spent an entire night attempting to fix the game through a necessary hotfix, but instead decided to turn it into another content patch. He tested the new hatchet / crowbar, giving updates via twitter & forums on it's progress, and eventually released it late that night, which pretty much deadlocked all the players and the servers because they were waiting to update to the latest patch. So we waited and waited for him to fix the game, yet when the patch finally came out it was a disaster. You couldn't pick up hatchets, it made you lose items, dropping items immediately spawned 62 crowbars, and it ultimately crashed servers. So YOU tell me what the f*ck he was doing that entire day? And it's not like these are incredibly rare and hard to reproduce bugs - you'll f*cking crash servers if you even dare look at a hatchet. Was he wanking those 8 hours away?? And this is the second patch in a row with game-breaking bugs, now. So you tell me if it's because "alpha" or his ineptness and inability to thoroughly test his own "hotfixes" and fix an INCREDIBLY obvious, disastrous bug. Sure, credit to rocket, he fixed some of the problems within reasonable time, but the latest patch still has some damage that needs repairing. If I'm going to end up buying DayZ as a "Mincecraft Model" (his words), then I need to have full faith that my money will be going to a game that is heading in the right direction and is being developed well enough to justify my $30 or whatever it will be set to, and know that his priorities are set straight. Buuuuut.... Despite that, as of now I'm still leaning towards buying the game. It's the greatest game of 2012 so far (and honestly... it's better than most anything going back even more years, in my opinion) and I think that alone deserves a bit of my money. I suppose I'm just worried if the direction of the game is heading is for the best. I fear it's gonna be one of those games where I'll play it many hours past 1.0 release and beyond, but will just make me yearn for the alpha / beta days because it was more raw, yet more powerful. And more features just kind of ruins the feeling a bit, do you know what im getting at here? ----- On a more optimistic note, I really do like the fact he decided to strip you to near bare-bones when you first spawn. Is there anything more tense than spawning in at night in the pitch black, with nothing but a flashlight and stealthing your way around zombies in hopes of finding bigger and better things, all the while hoping bandits don't spot you? yum - I hope he doesn't change that. Thats just badass. This post has been edited by The Killa on Wednesday, Jun 20 2012, 08:29
