DXT1 is what IV had after research from Yurban from the III Rage mod made this discovery.Others seem that the engine don't support or like well. | Let me correct you here.
Research from one person doesn't mean it's a 100% true. I also have done a lot of research on various features of RAGE. I don't share most of it cause I can't back it up other then saying it works for me.
I converted entire IVSA to DXT1, no difference on my pc. It depends on (gfx) memory. DXT5 has a (better) alpha channel, so converting full maps to DXT1 is bad. For characters it's fine to use DXT5.
