That's a pretty good song you posted, man.

This is a song I heard recently and really got to me. It's incredibly touching and it really pulls on my proverbial heart-strings.

We again, already have such a topic, I don't like harping on this either, nor do the Moderators, but search a few pages in to find such topics already made

Both In my Defense and These are the Days of our Lives by Queen/Freddie Mercury are really tear-jerkers for me, especially knowing that he was essentially dying as he recorded them.

I think you should have gone all cheesy and used 'Sad Songs' in your OP.

I do listen to a lot of songs that bring an honest tear to my eye, but I wouldn't really call them sad songs.

I'll leave this song here. My good friend can't even listen to it(and he refused to play it when we used to play guitar together) just because the part about his dog at 4:33-5:00

DB live performing Jerry Jeff Walker's Mr. Bojangles. Arguably, this is the best version you're ever going to hear of this song.

I've listened to every song posted in this thread. Do me a favor and give this one a little sample - you may enjoy it. Even if you just want to hear the story part around 3:05 go ahead. Aside from it being a great and wonderful, true story the musical abilities of Bromberg to be able to play bass and melody on one guitar while talking out a story is almost mind blowing.

I did for the oldies, but then I moved on to other topics, well, Will do

For me, I think songs with visuals, at least emotional ones that aren't truly just sad, but make you feel more then most.

A song never forced me to cry or feel downright sad, it's more an uplifting experience, but often a movie' credits song will have the effect, because it's the finale of the film and can end on a note that's down

There's not a lot of music that makes me sad - I tend to avoid it. I listen to a lot of ambient music, which can be quite emotional but I listen to it for the tingle I get with swelling strings and synths. That said, I do consider Radiohead to be quite sad. I never really understood them fully, and I have to be honest I have no idea what Thom Yorke's singing about half the time. Anything from OK Computer could be considered sad. I find it to be a sad album, with things just getting worse with the downright eerie spoken word piece around halfway through. Things pick up in tempo with the song Electioneering but by the time you get to The Tourist you're looking for enough pills to kill you quickly.

As it happens, my favourite Radiohead songs are either the most depressing they can offer or the most uplifting they can muster.

For me, it maybe the story of the band behind the song, something tragic that just changes how you hear a song! This can also happen at times

@ SatournFan: That is one hell of a song. "Hello" is far more intense for me, though. There's just something about that haunting piano that really gets me.

Here's a song that really digs deep. I remember first hearing it as I was reading about the feud between David Gilmour and Roger Waters in Nick Mason's book, Inside Out. I agree with Slamman that sometimes knowing the background of a band or song can change the perspective.

This is another favourite of mine purely because of the poetic lyrics. Beautiful stuff.

This is more for personal reasons, rather than just the track itself; Moby tends to not so much make me cry, but makes me feel rather down. It makes me think back to when life was easy, when I was sitting at home, and my dad would have some Moby playing in the background. confused.gif

Another one good at tugging the heart-strings:

Was bad enough on it's own, then I sat and watched the video and learnt the full meaning. cryani.gif

Have to admit, just listened to this song for the first time ever the other day, thanks to the Prototype advert. And yes, I actually felt a tear come to my eyes, especially when I read the notes that accompanied the track.

This song right here. icon14.gif

Every time I hear this one I well up with emotion, mostly because Hurt was one of a few songs Johnny Cash ever did before both he and his wife passed away a little over a few months later. sad.gif

Easily the saddest song I've ever listened to.

Ahhhh...you guys won't like Leonard Cohen, but you may want to sample this since he is still alive. You can than impress your friends later in life by saying you were listening to him when he was still alive.

This makes me think about how things will be in a couple of years when I'm heading off to college and probably will lose touch with my high school friends soon after..

They used this song for last-ever scenes of the TV show, Chuck, so it'll probably always make me sad too.

Fiction and Dear God were both written by their drummer, The Rev, and it makes me sad to listen to these now that he has died. Dear God also makes me think of some loved ones I've lost. Anyone can apply the lyrics to Dear God to someone in their life. It is truly a great piece of art.
