Soooo I installed GTAIV, and before patching I tried running the game, and a cmd prompt appears under the name of GTAIV (I can see it under my running processes) and then it crashes.

Again, I have no updates installed.
I have Games for Windows Live, DirectX, up to date drivers, as well as Rockstar Games Social Club.

I do not get an error, any help?

If you're still getting the commandline window, you probably haven't updated properly.

The point was the game should run fine without needing updates, however I have found even with the update I got the same issue, crashing without an error. However compatibility mode solves my issue (even though it wasn't needed before) either way I'm set

Updates are additions to software that can help prevent or fix problems, a program simply not running is more than a problem, it would be referred to as broken. The game should still run without needing updates, for example if someone bought an offline singleplayer game to play on a computer without internet, they shouldn't need internet to play it. Second of all, the updates did not solve the issue, so according to your opinion even still they did not do their job.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Initial activation requires internet connection

Which would infer you need an internet connection to play, at least to get you going. Publishers provide patches, it's up to the user to get them. In a general case, no software can accommodate for future hardware / software right out of the box, this is something I'd assume any semi intelligent individuals can figure out on their own.

System requirements: OS Windows Vista - SP1; Windows XP - SP3

Do you meet these requirements?

In no way am I saying GTAIV is not buggy, I'm just saying no one should assume any software will work out of the box. Most do, but assumption is mother of all f*ckups. Hence, GTAIV.
