That's what I'm mostly excited for. I hope to see it vast, and greatly diverse. You're in multiplayer riding through a small town surrounded by mountains, while another player is having a problem with cops in Downtown Los Santos. Can freedom get any better? (Is this somewhere in South of San Andreas state? you bet) This post has been edited by FiS!!HeR on Tuesday, Apr 17 2012, 15:00

| QUOTE (BrianJohnsonsBrotherCarl @ Tuesday, Apr 17 2012, 12:36) | | To me they're playing with words here. "Largest most ambitious game" does not necessarily mean "biggest map yet." | Yes it does.. The first thing you think about after the announcement of a new GTA is the setting, that includes the map. If R* says it's their largest and most ambitious game, it's about the map. What else would it refer to? A "large" story, a lot of cars, ..? All the other things don't make any sense if you look at the words in their context. One might argument its about the whole package.. but this is GTA, a game where one of the most important aspects is the map. Theres the test with RDR and theres a jet in the trailer. There's 0 logic in any other thoughts. What I also don't understand is that some people think Dan Houser is hiding something big. It's mainly people who still think LV or SF will be in the game tho.. Houser said he has to be careful, but he just said that to make the little joke with the barbwire + he has to be careful cause everything is supposed to remain secret. If he does say something and the wrong question is asked, one which he can't confirm or deny, conclusions might be made.. kinda like some people are doing right now ironically.. Also, Houser said he's going to stick exactly to what was in the press release. "Los Santos and a very big map". So how is the largest and most ambitious game not about the map? Dan Houser said it himself.

I'm expecting Los Santos to be slightly smaller than IV's Liberty City (but one large area rather than 4 boroughs), but the map itself to be much larger than IV's. |
Dude, The city of Los Angeles is quite larger than the city of New York. Plus, this is LA County were talking about. LA County is HUGE! I mean, let's look at Liberty City in GTA 4; not only was it the 5 boroughs but also Jersey City, New Jersey. So I expect the map in GTA 5 to be just as larger if not larger than GTA 4. Hell, I wouldn't even be that upset if it was the same size as the GTA 4 map just with the river between Alderney and Algonquin filled with land mass. LA is not that much bigger than NYC. Landmass, they are roughly the same. NYC is not just Manhattan. The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens make up more more of the percentage of this city than Manhattan does. I don't count Staten Island. Screw Staten Island. Read my post again... I said that I think Los Santos, the city itself, will be roughly the size of IV's LC... the rest of the map I expect to be quite larger than IV's....

Like I said... I wouldn't consider 7.2% "quite larger".... Do you have a link to where you go those numbers? I trust them, I'm just curious as to what is considered inside Los Angeles city limits compared to what's considered inside NYC's... A friend of mine just moved from NYC out to LA, and when visiting him it seemed that suburban areas that I didn't consider part of LA were within the city limits... I'm curious to find what out what is/isn't part of LA... This post has been edited by hockeysauce on Tuesday, Apr 17 2012, 15:26

No.Dan houser in January said that GTA V will have a very big map! |
And we, by no means, should relate the two statements. It's the 'biggest and most ambitious game', and it has a 'very big map' Nowhere does it say that it has the biggest map they've ever created. I can see how people confuse the facts, but I wish they wouldn't. | But thats the problem man, there arent any facts, other than what we see and "conclude". the press release could be marketing, for all we know. remember the "living, breathing city" that was supposed to be LC? but then again, look at the progression of IVs city map, to RDRs country map, to LA Noires ridiculously huge city map. and its in LS. I really do believe we are gonna be stunned, jaws dropped to floor sh*t, when we finally learn how big it really is going to be. MY OPINION-LS alone will be twice the size of LC. and thats just the city...and Rockstar CAN pull that off. No one knows how long theyve been working on it, but North has had 4 years and no titles since IV. Agent couldve been dropped long before they said. we just dont know. Without FACTS, this is all we can do is dream and speculate

These are facts. | Yes, they are. But you said "dont confuse the facts they arent related" or something, right? my point was that YOU cant say that because YOU dont know if they are related or not. So why not let people speculate? YOU dont know what rockstar means by most ambitious game. I dont know what rockstar means by most ambitious game. so we speculate, and then you comment and say they arent related dont confuse the facts. WHAT?!?! YOU dont know, NO ONE here knows that. so let people speculate, no? then i went off on map size because im excited

Why SHOULD they? There is nothing wrong with it, and they continue to polish and improve on it. I'm sure at some point, they will HAVE to build a completely new engine, but that is nowhere near today. More than likely, it will only happen when the next generation of consoles come out, and that is only because of the new hardware not being compatable with the engine, so EVERY game developer will most likely have to start with new engines as well.
