Yeah I honestly think you guys are setting yourselves up for dissapointment. GTAV will be a wonderful game, but you're taking the term Bold New Direction way too seriously. They most likely just said it to  build the hype and make it sound cool.

Hell, when they say Bold New Direction, they could be meaning a lot of things like:

-First game in the IV era to feature flyable planes
-First game to feature an old man as a protagonist
-More emphasis on multiplayer
-Featuring countryside in a IV era game

I can go on for days but you probaly get the point. It's assumptions like these that make fans dissapointed when the game gets released.

MULTIPLAYER. I honestly think that's what the the bold new direction will be

I hope not. GTA should focus on the singleplayer.

True Crime:Streets Of L.A had this, and multiple endings. This could totally happen with current gen whoever said it might not be able to handle it.

IKR if the PS2 could handle it so can this gen and then some.

I did acknowledge that it may not be literal though.

In reality it probably is just a marketing tactic like many devoplers employ, but it's just an idea I thought we could discuss and if R* actually do mean it in a literal sense I believe something like this could be done.

In essence it's not really a new idea as such, but just like GTA III redefined the sandbox genre even though sandbox games existed before it this would add a whole new complexity as far as story telling goes in sandbox games.

I don't expect it to actually happen, but it's just a thought that others may have liked to discuss.

There's probably more to it but having an older protagonist is a step in a bold direction the way some people have freaked out and gone into denial mode. None of us expected a protagonist even older then Niko or Johnny.

My guess on some of the things they might be doing with V is time based events. That mile high club building will be built at some point in the story, certain businesses will be liquidised and their buildings will be brought down or changed to make way for new businesses.

As for future GTA's I would love if they did something similar to demon souls where other players would be able to invade your single player game to either help or sabotage your progress that would be pretty bold.

My thoughts exactly, f**k that multiplayer sh*t. Why can't some games developers and people in general just understand that some games are primarily meant for a single-player experience ? GTA is one of them, so I too should hope its not about no bulls*t multiplayer.

I just think this overdone and overstated MP craze is indirectly ruining the development of very good single-player games in a way.

icon14.gif I totally agree with you guys, 100%, but look at the signs. Games with a good online experience (mostly MP) is what most (gaming) fans want. Take COD for example, lol. And the only bit of info is informing us that GTA V MP will be connected to MP3's or some sh*t, idk, I don't play online so I could give a sh*t. But this most likely means that they've worked on MP quite alot, which is a "bold, new direction" for a GTA game, which are known for the single player experience alone. Don't get me wrong, the SP experience will be phenomenal, nothing like we've seen. But they won't change the GTA formula this drastically, I'm positive. IMO.

The one thing I've always hated is that Heavy Rain was a PS3 Exclusive - because by God, It was everything I've ever wanted in a game.

And I would LOVE if GTA took on that concept.

You always wanted an entire game made by pushing directional sticks.

I'm driving my car, I only push left.

I'm cutiing my finger off, I push down.

Were's the true gameplay element, there isn't one, becasue it's a movie.
I don't wanna play a movie, I wanna play a game.

You can always tell if someone could'nt get the hang of AA Off. They say the MP is sh*t.
Wereas in actuality IV is one of the best multiplayer games around.

I spent 2 years leveling up to 10, I have never spent that much time on any other game, not even COD.

If they remove MP form GTA I will never play it again, there is no point in driving around LC after you've completed it in SP.

LOL @ the thought of R* bailing on MP. Anyone seen Max Payne 3? The MP on that game looks amazing! Just as RDR's MP was...AMAZING!
They are learning to bridge the gap between SP and MP more and more with each new game. I can't wait to take to the battlefield in MP3 with my 'crew', and me and my friends have already decided to go to MP on GTAV straight up because of how much fun we had with IV and RDR online.

We'll always have both a deep SP and extensive MP with R*, just roll with it.

Wait, why are we talking about MP?

The Bold direction could be dual protagonists, I'm probably reading too much into it but here's what I got from the trailer.

Protagonist 1

Ned luke is of course protagonist number one here's where I might be over analysing he seems to be calmer and more professional of the two protaganists the reason I say this is due to his calm narrating his fast but controlled driving and his blue car could symbolise calm and control as opposed to protagonist number 2

Protagonist 2

The guy in the vest also seen numerous times during the trailer, as opposed to Ned Lukes character he is seen driving a red car which symbolises danger and recklessness, certain things he does during the trailer such as impatiently reving his car at the stoplight to gain the girls attention and driving recklessly to escape cops support this while Ned luke is seemingly just cruising is his blue car without attracting any police attention.

Conclusion

The contrast of Blue and Red could symbolise their roles during the game with Ned luke taking over the quieter more methodical missions seen in VC and IV whereas the guy in the vest tackling the more crazy and reckless missions similar to SA and TBOGT. By doing this we get the best of both worlds without damaging the authenticity of Ned Luke's character which probably wouldn't be caught dead doing half the sh*t CJ did in SA due to his age and stature.

My idea is if you die, get arrested or fail a particular objective instead of failing the mission outright the story automatically configures to such a scenario and for the next mission it's altered depending on what you achieved in the prior mission?

sounds like a cool idea to me icon14.gif

Stop being so goddamned but hurt.

If you actually read the entire thread instead of rushing in to post/flame, you'd see that most have come to the consensus that this happening this gen isn't likely and is just a good idea in general.

Again, I really love this theory. It's the only exception to my one protagonist rule.

I would really like this tipe of gta. But what happens when you fail most of the missions? Will it be wery short and you have to start a new game?
If anyone have played Mount & Blade then there you have two options, auto save or manual save. I always choosed the auto save which means that if you fail a mission it automaticaly saves and you can't reload.
I remember having a plane mission in San Andreas which i couldn't pass although i tried it 50 times in a row. And there where no other missions also to do, so it would have been nice to fail that mission permanently and continie the storyline without succeeding the mission.
It would ad a wery good replay value.
