I was surprised to see Crysis 3 announced so soon after Crysis 2. Could the announcement be a part of EA damage control?

Hmm, I don't really like the 'boxed in' feeling. It's becoming more and more linear compared to C1. It's like they're copying The Simpsons movie. But I'll hold my judgement until I hear more info.

Exactly, if the game is as linear as C2 then it will be a disappointment.

Linear gameplay isn't disappointing. Repetitive gameplay is. Both Crysis had bit of that but I liked story in the first one quite a lot.

After watching the trailer i really don't understand how is this sequel and not dlc, it's the same city with minor to none improvements in graphics, same setting, enemies, some new weapons. I was really surprised that there wasn't any dlc after crysis 2, looks like this should be that dlc, but crytek was somehow forced by EA to make this into sequel.

The map isn't re-used, they've said it's all been created from scratch. It's just the location of "New York" that's being reused and it's going to be reasonably different with the whole dome thing. We wont be walking down the same streets and stuff.
