Not by stealing cars or, killing mob bosses. I wanna see my efforts actually benefit me, not " mob boss is dead, now city is safe" I wanna see the protagonist go f*ck it and go on a killing spree downtown, Mowing down civilians that get in his way. One who has no morals and will do anything and kill absolutely anyone without hesitation.
I wanna go from petty theft to stuff that would give my character the death sentance, if caught. |
That is a pointless idea.
You can do all that in GTA anyway duh! All you have to do is go in free roam and start a killing spree by randomly shooting people, blowing things up and running over everything in sight with a large vehicle. You can be a murderous, merciless, heartless criminal psycho whenever you want.
You really did not think about that properly did you ? |
Well looking back my idea really was pointless. I want my character to be a cruel heartless bastard , but I want it to be written into the story. Such as , the main character says that he wants to go on killing sprees. |
You should stop this pointless fixation with killing sprees, the protagonist can do that anytime he wants, it does not have to be written into the story.
I think a better way to explain your idea, is to have a cold, ruthless, murderous, but cunning and smart character, one whose always seems to find an understandable reason to justify his very bad actions. Someone can be heartless and impulsively kill in an instant simply because the a situation requires him to, not just out of sheer delight. Something like a mix of Stringer Bell from The Wire, Michael Corleone from The Godfather 2, Tony Soprano of the Sopranos and Alonzo from Training Day, or even Vic Mackie from The Shield. | That's what I want. You hit the nail on the head.

Niko was a nice guy at heart, though we can tell he is a cold blooded killer when we are in mission, and niko really wanted another half (GF) Gta 4 was a love simulater |
"I killed people, smuggled people, sold people." Yeah, Niko was such a nice guy. | "Perhaps here, things will be different." Remember he was involved in many thing he didn't want. As it was said before, Niko can be a cold-blooded killer when needed, but this doesn't mean he doesn't care about those around him.

And what do you mean, "Vercetti wannabe" ? Tommy Vercetti does not have a monopoly on being a cold, ruthless, and murderous criminal mastermind. Your're acting like Tommy invented the concept.
|
I was giving an example. Every single GTA protagonist(dont know about I and II) had a different personality. 1. Claude was the silent type contract killer 2. Tommy was a badass motherf*cker who stole a f*cking mansion. 3. CJ was a coward but came through in times of need. 4. Niko just wanted to be normal V's should be different from the rest This post has been edited by spiderman3000 on Tuesday, Apr 10 2012, 17:26

Have we ever really had a protagonist whose character has developed as the story progresses? I don't mean that by the end, they get everything they want. I'm talking about their characteristics, their moral code. They always seem to stay the same throughout the whole story. I think it would be interesting to have a character that changes his morality as the story goes on. Like, he starts out as an honest criminal, always by the book. Loyal to his friends. But at some point, he becomes too greedy. So he starts breaking his moral codes, and cutting his friends out. Then he will become the antagonist, and he will have to protect his empire from the people he was once friends with.
So if you think about it, greed will be the true antagonist. This could be an interesting "bold new direction" for V. Sure we always play as the bad guy in GTA, but never as the same caliber of bad guy as Sonny Forelli or Tenpenny. That would be a welcome change, in my opinion.
