I have followed this game since I first read about it in 2004. Back then it was GrandTheftendo, a fan made port of GTA 3 for the NES. Over the years, the website (grandtheftendo.com) died and nothing much was heard of it again, leaving just a few screenshots of the game. NES hardware had too many limits and the game could never be commercially released.

It has evolved into an original indy game - Retro City Rampage. Still combining GTAs open world freedom and 8Bit graphics from the NES, the game is now a homage to 80s gaming and pop culture, loaded with references and elements from old skool games.

It is made from scratch now. There is no actual content from GTA or any other games, but it comes really close. Close enough that you will recognise the references, but different enough to be legal.

Oh Hallelujah! I have also been following this game for years, great to finally see it up and running. It's actually been months and months since I've heard any news about it as I quit trying to find anything on the website after it had essentially been binned.

Looks like a great game in the end, combining aspects of so many of the most influential games of all time (Mario, Metroid, LoZ et al). As I said I'm so grateful that the developer has finally got this done and ready for release.

I remember reading about this in a mag back in 05 or so. It was intended to be a port of GTA 3 for NES but they changed it. It was supposed to be exclusive to Wii later. I guess its coming to more platforms. Ok i guess but if its more then 5.99 im not buying it.

While waiting for this game my attention was turned to another similar one that also takes influence from GTA called Hotline Miami and I got a chance to play that one at EuroGamer and it's brilliant, very unknown right now, but it's another to keep an eye out for, it seems more focused on the darker elements, brutal violence and drugs, etc.

Just found out this game is 14.99.

Lmao... THIS is 14.99? So not worth it.. I dont care how long its been in development.
Its really only worthy of being called a PSmini due to the size and how the game plays. After playing the demo, its only worth 5.99 to me. And due to the fact it originally was to release free when under the name Grand Theft Tendo, i dont see why its even for sale. It should be free. Oh well. Id rather just get GTA 3 from PS2 classics on ps3, which is 100% better, and its only 9.99, which is cheaper.
