I despise the Xbox and I am a huge Playstation fan, but after reading that article I am petrified of these three things: 1. No used games 2. No PS3/PS2 games 3. ORBIS 1. If this is true, I'm really going to have to be more cautious as to which games I purchase. I may onlly be able to get 3/4 games a year, assuming the games cost $90 However, a possible solution to this is to reduce the cost of games. Instead of raising the "next-gen" price by $20, maybe they can reduce it by $20. So it would be like buying a PS2 game! 2. Whatever. I guess I'm keeping my PS3. Still, I always wanted to buy GTAV from the Playstation Network store on the PS4 my dream's crushed :l 3. No.

| QUOTE (Slamman @ Wednesday, Mar 28 2012, 21:09) | | @Voyager, that's really a fallacy you just said about working the kinks out, 6 years?!? Really??? haha |
I got one of the white 360's about a year before the "S" model came out. It was a piece of junk, it kept freezing up on me consistently about 30 minutes into every game I tried. I played from disc, not memory, and every disc was in literally perfect condition. I tried everything under the sun, clearing the cache, updating the OS, resetting the system to factory condition, using a lens-cleaning disc. Nothing worked, so I sold it to a GameStop. I got one of the S models and it's truly bug-free, it's been going strong for a year and a half without a single problem. I've never owned one but all the reports from PS3 Slim owners suggest that they're bug-free as well. Yes with either system you can still get one that has something wrong with it, but the numbers of those reports are surprisingly small and it seems you either get a good one from the factory or you don't. I call bull on this idea of boycotting gaming, you'll switch to PC platform, that's their goal, dontcha see??!
@Voyager... I know about games freezing up, GTA IV on PS3, original 60 gig model, the other games worked that I did use on the system, ultimately I pawned that one I believe, I got another that's freezing up on downloaded trials, I dealt with RROD on about 5 to 7 Xboxes I bought used, never did buy a new model, pre-Slim. I have owned two HDMI, one black, one white, the white one is working still, but black one still got RROD So....it's really a luck of the draw buying either, but the heat sink situation has been revised on the Xbox about 4 or 5 times since it's release.
The thing is the came core components are there, it's just been a better attention to how they're built and assembled. The solder was also key to the mainboard failure.
It's a mystery why RROD or YLOD is avoided and the system just freezes. But, suffice it to say, PC is not without it's own set of gaming problems! It's a question of what works more efficiently, and usually it's the console winning

Multiple threats of lawsuits were directed at Microsoft. The console has since been re-designed and re-released in the form of said model.

Read my edit above, concerning the console failures, the main thing with Xbox will be a two SKU system, this seems true based on the print articles, again, mostly rumor here, guys, gals!!
SKU means model levels, offered for sale at the same time, PS or Playstation from Sony could be taking a page from MS' playbook, offering a set top PS model that is contingent on an online distribution model. This would mean no backward compatibility and games from a different line of distribution. They'd cater to both types of gamer, but they can't shut down one for the other. This much is rather obvious.
I'll agree this question of rumor and fact is beyond maddening and tiring, but it's the waiting that leads to us grasping at straws

| QUOTE (canttakemyid @ Wednesday, Mar 28 2012, 21:40) | | I hope this article is wrong because if not, the next Xbox has already won me over. I have a feeling that the next Xbox will trash this sh*t. |
Read the whole article, it suggests that the next Xbox will have the same anit-used game system. As it is with the 360, only some of the most popular original Xbox games are backward compatible and you need the hard drive to play them, so I wouldn't doubt the next Xbox having little to no backward compatibility as well. In their related next-gen Xbox article they also talk about a possibly smaller controller which I'm not fond of at all. I liked the big original Xbox controller and I was disappointed with the "S" controller. Now I've grown to like the "S" controller, it fits my hands perfectly. There's no way I could get used to a smaller controller. Maybe they could make a modular controller. Each grip on the controller could have interchangeable grip panels of varying size, much like some of the newest handguns have interchangeable backstraps of varying size. | QUOTE (Slamman @ Wednesday, Mar 28 2012, 21:50) | | Used game is more a factor sure, but WE who invested in PS for instance, we felt more strongly about retaining a backward compatible system. For Apple's IIGS system, their move to 16 bit from 8 bit, a consolidated COMPUTER ON A CHIP was able to be included on the main board, this idea holds true to this day as well, either firmware emulation or a System ROM chip |
Not everybody who owns a PS3 (if that is what you meant by WE investors) cares about playing PS2 games. As for PS3, you'll just have to keep your old console. The main thing that bothers me with this isn't the lack of backwards compatibility, it is the idea that you have to be connected to PSN in order to play a downloaded game.
