A signature is any kind of graphic, user created or otherwise. The contest isn't about the person's creativity, simply the best looking signature. Cropping the image, adding effects, resizing etc. all counts as image editing.

Why do I always get the new page when replying to someone.

I agree to some extent. However it still takes effort to crop and position an image correctly, and the person may have added some effects which aren't visible at first glance. If I'm using a photo I always alter it in some way. In previous SOTW there was some members who would take the piss and draw stupid things in MS Paint, like a few lines, that was annoying.

It's just for fun anyway, I cartainly don't take it too seriously and I know a few others don't.

People have to find the image too, you know. It's like picking songs for a music playlists. You didn't write the music, but you brought it all together.

I just hope people will vote for the one that is most visually appealing and that this doesn't/hasn't turned into some 'popularity contest.'

On many of my other forums, we would submit an entry to a designated graphics leader as well as the original image, but to my understanding, there isn't really a single or single few people for this particular section, so it couldn't really work.

Well Narcis is the forum leader here, but he is usually swamped by people looking for requests. I wouldn't mind looking after all of that if it was to be enacted.

Narcis is pretty much the most popular guy in this part of the forum, and area moderator for both GFX Requests and Visual Arts, and he's never even submitted a SOTW entry lol. So it's certainly not a popularity contest, it's just for fun. You get nothing for winning anyway. Simply vote for the top 3 sig's you like, doesn't matter how you judge them.
