Why do people worry about multiple discs? I remember many great games on PS1 that had multiple discs and it didn't make them less enjoyable.
I guess some people are lazy slobs who can't make the effort of a 5 second disc change over. | @ Miami You are talking about the PS1, and not even the PS2. Multiple discs is a feature of late 1990s console technology and we are now in 2012. We would not have noticed the flaws in multiple discs back then because as console owners, a) we had no choice and b) it was the only technology available at the time to contain large-capacity games. Considering a current-gen HD console like the 360 is STILL using multiple discs in this present-day, I'd say it is appalling and ridiculous, there is just no excuse for it. Microsoft could have avoided it, but they did not, they just thought they could be tight-fisted, cautious and cunning at the same time. Well they failed big time. I really don't think console gamers not wanting multiple discs is about simply being lazy slobs, I don't why people with the same view as you keep saying this. With the advanced gaming software technology available now, there is no excuse for not fitting everything on to one disc. And now that most gamers are either not used to, or ever have had to exchange discs to continue playing a game, I'm very sure it would kinda ruin the experience in many cases. Games cost quite a great deal of money for what they are, so it is only right we gamers demand the best features in current software tech used for games, not ancient stuff. Call it laziness if you want, the bottom line is that many find it multiple discs obstructive, obsolete and outdated. @ 360 defenders I have seen both the PS3 and 360 versions of games and they look the mostly the same with minor unique differences, and I prefer the looks of the PS3 version I will say myself. Most gaming sites state this, but you guys just wont hear it. OK keep telling yourselves that the 360 has much better versions of GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption than the PS3, even though you clearly know it is not true and that it is a subjective point of view. Despite the fact that there is no real confirmation that the PS3 versions are inferior or sub-HD, you still keep spitting out this rubbish. It is only because you know deep down that PS3 is a more powerful, and all-round better machine, and by screaming "GTA IV and RDR looks better on the 360" it will make you guys feel better about your choice of console. Just better hope you don't get GTA V on multiple discs on the 360. That is what you should be doing, rather than always trying to measure the 360 up to the PS3.

And coming from someone who mostly plays the PC versions of all games. The 360 version of GTA IV does look a bit sharper than the PS3. The PS3 version has warmer colors, though. HOWEVER, In the complete pack with GTA IV R* has cleaned up the PS3 version a little bit more and it looks pretty much the same as the 360 version. RDR does look better on 360.. Lensoftruth will tell you that.

| QUOTE (AtomicPunk @ Tuesday, Mar 27 2012, 13:50) | | I actually tested Red Dead with a friend of mine. We put two 48' LCD TV's side by side, one with a 360 and the other with a PS3. The PS3 version looked better to me and to him. And it definitely sounded better. With 360, they worked it out on how to reach into your pockets at every turn and I lost all respect for Microsoft for that alone. Now Microsoft is considering the 'no used games' B.S.. See what happems to them if they try that. It will be game over. Microsoft is too money hungry and takes advantage of their gamers. |
That's exactly my problem. I started out as a 360 user. I got the RRoD, and they apparently could fix the console if still under warranty but the expenses of actually posting it in the mail to them was all up to me. Not only that, I had just renewed a year's worth of Live Gold membership (just to be able to play games I've already bought, using an internet connection I already pay bills for). Not only that, Bluray was really starting to get kicking so I bought a PS3. From the very minute I opened it out of it's shiny box, it used WIFI to connect online and I was up and running playing online in no time. My girlfriend was also impressed with Little Big Planet (a ps3 exclusive) so it was a no brainer decision. My original GTA days were all PS2, because it was the primary console for GTA releases during that era (vice city etc). It seems that R* themselves give preference to ps3, so I can't think of any reason not to choose to go with Sony. Microsoft get more money and credit than they deserve. Advice to OP, from a 360 gone PS3 user - pick the PS3. Trust me!

Look, I don't like giving a greedy company like Microsoft my money neither, but this is getting ridiculous. All side-by-side tests agree that the Xbox 360 versions of GTA IV and RDR are graphically superior to the PS3 versions, there's just no denying it. And it's no secret that Rockstar's latest games have been designed for Xbox 360 first then ported over to PS3 later, so I don't get why you say that R* prefers the PS3? It's no better being a Playstation fanboy than an Xbox fanboy, the only way to win is NOT being a fanboy at all. Proof for X360 version of RDR being superior: http://www.lensoftruth.com/head2head-red-dead-redemption/Proof for GTA IV: http://www.gamespot.com/features/6202552/p-4.html

Proof for GTA IV: http://www.gamespot.com/features/6202552/p-4.html | Those links you posted are not proof whatsoever. The images (in quality, and game setting/weather etc) differentiates between each image. Also, I don't think you can completely replicate how it looks on a TV using a digital image, but I'm running PS3 and my copy of GTAIV looks exactly like the "Xbox 360" images in the links you sent. They were obviously made by an Xbox fanboy, so they recreated the images for PS3, probably with an Xbox 360 again but just with darker weather and slightly blurred the image. The PC version I'll admit though, could look better than the consoles. Haven't seen it for myself but it seems likely.

@ sibs44
Look at what I posted again. I did say it is down to subjective opinions did I not ? I accept that some people prefer how GTA IV and RDR looks on the 360 and some people prefer how it looks on the PS3, but for most part, both versions of both games are on equal levels. No major gaming site stated that one was marginally better looking than the other.
I 100% agree with you about what you stated the Complete Edition of GTA IV on the PS3, it definitely looks slightly better than the original 2008 single version. I tried to tell some guys this on the IV forum and some fools tried to tell me it was the placebo effect and that I was seeing things, when I knew there was definitely an improvement. I had both versions on the PS3, so I knew exactly what I saw and what I was talking about.
As for Red Dead Redemption, I was very scared about the PS3 version at release date, because I nearly believed all those biased and silly internet comparisons that favored the 360 version. When I played it, I found it it was all lies, the PS3 version looks brilliant, the graphics come very close to those of the Uncharted games I'd even say. I've seen the 360 version of RDR on my friend's 360 and it looks very similar to the PS3 version, and yeah you are right it does look a bit sharper - but in my opinion a bit too sharp and it was very, very colorful, which I did not like. The PS3 version of RDR had just right amount of sharpness, more smoothness and its color levels were just fine, not too much and not too less. Sometimes too much sharpness and bright colours can make a game's graphics a little cartoony, which is what I found with the 360 versions of RDR and GTA IV. I think the PS3 versions of GTA IV and RDR look more smoother and realistic than the 360 versions, and I prefer more realistic graphics over too much sharpness and bright colors. This is just my view of course, I just prefer how it looks on the PS3, no bias, its a genuine preference, Lensofthruth can say all they want.

Everybody is a fanboy these days. I think people can see for themselves which version looks better in the samples I've provided without your input. If you want to see more comparisons, google it. I bet you can't find a single one where the PS3 looks better, and it's not because the whole internet is filled with Xbox fanboys. There are games that look and plays better on the PS3, but Rockstar's latest games are not among them.
