Firstly try and post in the correct topic as this is for mission problems. With answer to your question tapping the x button whilst pushing your left analogue stick forward is the best its gonna get. With regards to sliding I think Nico only does this when going into blind cover when you press L1 whilst running towards your cover. I've watched several clips on youtube and can't really see any distinct difference with the ps3 clips.
