| QUOTE (GTA-King @ Thursday, Mar 15 2012, 23:11) | | What if the balcony guy turns out to be a badass like Tommy Vercetti was? What will some of you think then? |
I don't really care if he his badass, that is not the be all and end all for me. I don't want a Mafia-type, older guy like him, I would just much rather a younger protagonist, and one that is more in tune with the real-life Los Angeles criminal underworld, which happens to be more associated with street gangs. I'm not saying he definitely has to be a gang member himself, but I want a protagonist from that kind of street background and scene and is familiar with gang culture, it would make much more sense as far as realism in the game is concerned. @ Death2Drugs So its okay for Rockstar to piss people off by letting you play as an Eastern European hitman who kills people he does not know in mob hits simply for money, but not gang violence ? Come on bro, you are not making any sense here. This post has been edited by Official General on Thursday, Mar 15 2012, 23:57

| QUOTE (GTA-King @ Friday, Mar 16 2012, 00:37) | We didn't see much gang activity in the trailer. So what makes some of you think V will be another gang theme?
Not trying to be hostile. I do agree gangs WILL be in the game. It's a LA parody as you said. But why should they be the focus again? Why not Cartels? They're very active in present day LA. The "V" logo is from money. So that's the best lead we can go on. Cartels + Drugs = Money. Maybe local gangs peddle the drugs for them?
Just my thoughts. |
You obviously did not read my post properly. I did say my ideal protagonist did not have to be in a street gang or be a gang member. I would just prefer if he was from the same social background as LA gangs and that he is able to connect with them and be familiar with them at least. Anyway, yeah I can work with that, I'm fine with that idea. Although I will remind you that Mexican drug cartels are active in LA in a role they play that mostly involves importing and selling drugs to street gangs and other criminals. Its the street gangs that handle the distribution and retail of these drugs thereafter. So Mexican drug cartels are not necessarily causing terror on the streets of LA with their violence, that stuff happens in Mexico (and maybe a few U.S. border towns) among themselves in their drug wars. Most of the gang wars in LA are fought almost entirely between rival street gangs like the Bloods and Crips, Surenos, La Eme, Avenues etc - not cartels, mafias, mob, none of them. I would like someone who can connect with both the street gangs and the Mexican drug cartels, which is why I would prefer a younger protagonist of Hispanic origin. That's the kind of stuff I want, the real serious hardcore stuff that really happens in LA. I don't want to play as some middle-aged Mafioso who is washed-up and wants to retire to a sunny city, but somehow gets back into crime, I don't care how badass he is. However your idea is cool with me, I can get with that This post has been edited by Official General on Friday, Mar 16 2012, 01:10

LOL, I did not say that you said that. That is really my own pre-judgement on what that middle-aged, alleged protagonist guy on the balcony might be. I mean, I could be wrong, but either way I don't like the look and sound of him as a protagonist for GTA V. I don't know why, I just don't think he fits the role of a protagonist for this particular GTA (V). He sounds Italian-American and Mafioso-ish, and I just think its a bit out of place to to include that as the main theme in a present-day, LA-based GTA game. Yeah I know we don't know what exactly is really going on and who is gonna be what, but that's just my views for the time being. If anything else, I would prefer the multiple protagonist idea, but like GTA IV+Episodes on one disc.

Oh ok. We really just need to wait... lol. It's so fun to speculate though! I can't wait until we have more to go on sometime in May or June. It's going to be crazy! I would like to point out though that Robert De Niro was 51 in the movie Heat, and he was a badass. Not a mobster either. Just a professional theif *cough* jewelry heist *cough This post has been edited by GTA-King on Friday, Mar 16 2012, 01:14

LOL again you need to look closely at what I post post. Not being disrespectful, but I really don't care if that middle-aged guy on the balcony turns out to be a badass like Robert De Niro in Heat. Being a badass is not everything about what a GTA protagonist should be. There needs to be a believable cause and effect when looking at the protag's story and character. Heat was a great movie and that shoot-out scene was epic, but if the protagonist is a middle-aged, white bank robber/theif, he makes a big score and gets lots of money, then what ? He's got no real reason to traffick or sell drugs, and he sure does not need to be getting involved in gang wars. Not really much for a storyline is it ? You need to think these things through and see what would be believable and why our protagonist has to embark on a life of crime. Tommy Vercetti was slightly on the older side and yes, he was a real badass and his role was perfect for Vice City, because in real-life in the 1980s, there were Cuban and Colombian drug syndicates terrorizing Miami with violent drug wars and the Italian-American Mafia had a very strong presence in Miami at the same time, and these 3 crime groups all did business together too. It all made sense and was believable, thats why Tommy Vercetti worked so well in VC. We need some kind of similar system to make GTA V work well like what we saw in VC.
