Ok listen.. fuel & hunger may not play as big of a role as you might think, they're small pieces of the 1000 piece puzzle. This is GTAV, the cities & its its population around you is expected to breath life more than in the past.
That means that all these little seemingly pointless features come together to make an eventful environment suitable for missions to take place in. There are many things that can factor into how things go in whatever agenda your carrying out. some of those things you have no power over, & that's what you would consider when about to commit something like a crime, the risk.
What must be understood is that these features should & hopefully would, be balanced.
FUEL is not a big deal at all, It should be added in a way it goes unnoticed. lets say all cars last an ingame week at 100% & all stolen cars have 50% minimum & leave it at that.
HUNGER is neither a big deal, was just fine in SA, but its frequency should be less & possibly halted in missions.
I think that it is very important to not have things just for show, & as the videogame industry's ability to make bigger, more complected games grows, we can have more than just a HD gta III/VC/SA. R* Has always been about letting us do whatever we want in GTA, but they can give us more options to choose from now, even if some seem small & redundant.
Hunger & fuel just happen to be the topic of this thread, but there are quite a few more things that go along with them in this debate, some what people may label Roleplaying characteristics. Its not rp'ing though, its expanding the environment of the place the game actually takes place.
IMO the more things the PC & NPC's can do when going along the street of a city, the better, specially when you can factor in crime to all those situations. Anything can work if done the right way.. Dont be ignorant of possibilities.

| QUOTE (DirtyHarry44 @ Tuesday, Aug 21 2012, 22:03) | In my opinion, i like the ideas of having to eat and get gas because it just adds something for you to do and something else to think about while playing the game.
Forget the realism aspect. After playing the game for a couple months you end up wanting things to do when free roaming around. Have places you can eat all over the map so you don't have to go far to feed your hunger.
Also have the ability to transport gas canisters so you can bring the gas to the car....or place them strategically wherever you want and shoot them from a distance.... . Endless possibilities with gas canisters. | What's so good about eating in a game??? In real life I like the taste in my food. Also what would be the point in having Gas in GTA?? Do you want to take the freedom out of this game???

| QUOTE (Dick Valor @ Thursday, Mar 8 2012, 20:11) | While I'm not a proponent of either idea, I'm sure R* would design the game so you could check your fuel gauge at any time. So only complete idiots would run out of gas. As for hunger, there are restaurants everywhere. We do have countryside, but suppose you could do some Man v. Wild sh*t and kill and eat any animal you come across.
Yeah, these ideas may sound tedious, but I had to play devil's advocate. Perhaps R* could limit them to a hardcore mode similar to that featured in Fallout: New Vegas? | These are great ideas imo it also makes the countryside that much cooler and dangerous at the same time.

OP, the only reason you don't have good reasons supporting the things you don't like are because you are ignoring them.
#1. I want Gas, even if it would barley come up. It does these things: A. Gives a purpose to gas stations B. Gives you more reason to drive like a normal person C. Gives you a reason to use strategy better when stealing cars D. Makes Tow Trucks very useful if you do happen to run out of gas in a rare car (call up a towing company, pay them or kill them and do it yourself) And being a huge fan of MAFIA, which has fuel, and having played it in excess of seven times, I have only run out of gas one time - and in that situation someone shot my gas tank so it leaked.
#2. Hunger would be fine with these kinds of constraints: A. It would not interrupt missions by being disabled during them B. Food would be convenient to find, all restaurants able to be entered C. Starvation would accumulate relatively slowly
IMO, these don't even need to be optional, but I would think that if they were going to be they'd be great for a Hardcore mode ala New Vegas. I loved that, I cannot tell you the satisfaction of getting that achievement.
