My dad told me about his passing earlier this evening. It came as a very big shock, especially since I was just recently getting into listening to songs by The Monkees.

Yeah, heard this on Fox news this morning when I got up, he died about 12 hours ago, this morning? Heart attack, age 66
They reported he was on stage on the Ed Sullivan show when the Beatles appeared in 1963, and he decided then and there what he wanted to do! It's also factoid that David Bowie changed his legal name from David Jones because of the Monkees status and success, not to be confused between the other David Jones

It's a real shame that Davy Jones has passed. He was a talented musician and, in my opinion, the best member of The Monkees. He will be dearly missed by everyone. Rest in peace. †
