I swear if this game is ruined there will be major hell to pay, and they better not push that Origin crap on us.
I'm going to play Simcity 4 now. |
Origin is required for all EA games now to "try" to stop piracy. |
God damn it f*ck this sh*t
I might just pirate it
|
people still think origin is a "spyware"? wow | Nope
but I seriously loathe dl'ing Origin. Not because I think Steam is the best platform for PC Gaming (well, I do now, but I don't think its infallible), but because I really don't wanna download another application for a game. For a single company's games. Especially of a company that I really don't care much for.
Are their sales competitive with Valve's? If not, then screw it. I wasn't sure if EA ran it, btw, so I looked it up, actually. I'll let you guys tell me if Valve does it as well, but some of this is concerning:| QUOTE | | One early example of this practice occurred in March of 2011. A user named "Arno" made the comment "Have you sold your souls to the EA devil?" in the BioWare forums.[29] For this post Arno's account was banned for 72 hours which prevented him from installing any of his purchased Origin games, including the just-released Dragon Age II.[30] When he protested the ban on BioWare's forum under a different username, a moderator responded that the appropriate punishment had been applied and subsequently locked the thread. Other threads that made reference to the issue were also locked by moderators. After reporting on the details of the incident, website Rock, Paper, Shotgun received a statement from EA saying that Arno's account ban was a mistake, and that future violations on the forums would not interfere with Origin users' access to their games. |
| QUOTE | | Despite EA's assurances, several more account bans were again reported in November and December of 2011, at least three of which were for infractions that did not violate the Terms of Service. In one case, a user named "Rob" received a 72-hour account suspension for posting a link to a network troubleshooting guide in the EA forums. EA interpreted this as a "commercial" link, even though the same link had been posted elsewhere in the forums for several years prior, and EA's own corporate support site and FAQ contained contained exactly the same link.[32] A different user named "James" had his entire account permanently deleted for quoting another forum user's use of the term "e-peen." When James contacted EA support for an explanation, he was told that the deletion was "necessary due to the repeated nature of the offense on the account" and that no further communication regarding the issue would be available.[32] Another account belonging to a user named "Aaron" was first suspended and then permanently deleted after a different Battlefield 3 user insulted him in the EA forums; the offending post included coarse language, and because the post contained Aaron's name at the end EA's content filter applied the ban to his account instead of the user who wrote the post. | I know Activision gets sh*t thrown at it, I know the same applies to Bioware to a smaller extent. Don't know about Electronic Arts, so I won't criticize. But this looks troubling.
I might end up getting it if they quit that exclusive sh*t. I really don't wanna download another application. If I don't have to download an application, then fine. But I'm also not gonna buy a PC Game at 60 f*cking dollars. That's ridiculous and just money grubbing. This post has been edited by E.A.B. on Tuesday, Mar 6 2012, 01:41

I couldn't agree, and would also like to add the Origin is a blight on the PC gaming-digital distribution market. My experiences with Origin have never been good, I once digitally purchased a game exclusive to Origin and it took over 24 hours for the game to be "activated" on my account, compared to Steam's near-instantaneous game purchasing process. During those 24+ hours I received no notification from Origin on either their website, my account, or my email. All I knew was that I was charged $59.95 on my bank account, I presumed Origin's store glitched and took my money for a product I never received. I contacted customer support and they sent me a copy-paste message essentially telling me there was nothing they could do "at this time". Eventually I received the game, apparently everything was working as intended over at EA. Of course my sorrow couldn't end there, downloading was painfully slow (it was apparently capped at 500kbp/s) and the program itself was very unintuitive compared to steam. (Granted my situation doesn't represent every Origin user, as I'm sure some people have used Origin without any major problems, however this still doesn't fix the useability, tech support, and other issues.) I could go on and on about my Origin rant, but I wont. tl;dr Steam is leaps and bounds superior to Origin in virtually every way, which sucks because we are essentially forced to use it to play certain games. You aren't going to stop piracy by offering a service even worse than piracy. Anyway, I digress. So far all we can do is speculate about this game we know almost nothing about, but so far it's not looking good. I don't think I can bare to witness another game with such great potential get trampled by the EA cash cow. I am still waiting for the real Spore to release.

| QUOTE (ccrogers15 @ Monday, Mar 5 2012, 00:46) | As for people saying they hope to see things.
Remember, simcity 2000,3000 and 4 had all those things: Landmarks, Building editor programs, building generator programs, etc. But those tools were for the windows versions only. |
I'm aware of the huge custom content communities built around Sim City 4 but there has never been a in-game building generator that just spawns unique buildings, all the buildings are pre-rendered, it was impossible in SC4. Since this one has real time graphics it'd be dumb not to have generated buildings the game should also not make square lots a requirement by now.

Long simcity fans should notice in the reboot, the world is no longer called SIM NATION. Look in the trailer at the ships, they say SIM LAND. Btw i can almost guarantee simcity will be released exactly 10 years after simcity 4 on purpose due to the fact simcity 4 was the last simcity maxis made, the best simcity ever made so far, and its being released 10 years later. SO im 100% sure it will be released on Jan 14, 2013.

It would be nice to see it make the 2012 holiday release frenzy. I wonder if this whole Maxis bringing back SimCity is what caused me to reinstall Spore last week? This is going to be a painful wait. And I'm telling you all right now if it is a let down I will give up on the gaming industry.

Im worried now, because it clearly says ONLINE ONLY on the more info... http://store.origin.com/store/ea/en_US/htm...er2_PreOrderNowAlso, how it has in the deluxe edition, "SETS" like britain sets and French sets... this most likely means no modding. Cause if there was modding people could pirate these "SETS". Looks like EA is once again holding a franchise back with there stupid DLC. God damn. No wonder it looks like sh*t.| QUOTE (ccrogers15 @ Wednesday, Mar 7 2012, 20:43) | | Maxis will not let this be a flop. Maxis is one of the best companies around with very creative minds. | And EA takes companies like Maxis and runs them into the ground
Which, going back to street mix, is why people don't want to support Origin. That, and the retarded ass sh*t they pulled when it first launched. Along with their 'quit criticizing sh*t developers guyz srsly we'll ban u' clause.
