ive decided that this game isnt worth it. It's overly-polished, like many EA games. It's the leggy blonde "essex bird"* that looks great but has nothing to back it up. The cities shown in the trailers look generic and bland. to be honest, this game looks boring, and i LOVED SC4, i still play it to this day, 10 years (apparantly) since its release.

This new game? I wont even consider buying it.

*nothing against essex residents, i use the slur to convey the meaning behind it, nothing more.

Me too,Iīm not going to buy it. The game not looks so bad imo,but the "DRM", "always online"..... this sucks.

Why? Itīs a sandbox game oriented to play solo, I want build my own city, I wonīt play online.
I see the new multiplayer perfect as an option, but ,why you have to do it mandatory? I donīt understand it at all.

Cheers for EA one more time.

Im not getting it due to the fact you MUST have that spyware origin installed and you MUST be online 24/7 to play it. Not cool. I will stick to simcity 4 and if i wanted a better graphics one, cities XL is always an awesome choice.

I imagine the always online side of things to be more close in how anno2070 works. the majority of the community trys to go green and then that gives you bonuses in your own city that boost happiness and stats as well as certain forms of manufacturing. Yes someone building a massive processing plant in an ajoining city may bring slightly more pollution, but it may also bring an increase in Steel production enabling you to have more skyscrapers in your city. could also mean more people leaving that city for your own city! where there is what are seen as downsides there are always upsides to it!

The issue is, origin is required and it spys on your computer and has access to your microphones, webcams, etc. Also if it requires to be online, what happens if you dont have always accessable internet? You just pretty much wasted $60 on a non playable game.

I really doubt that, they just see what programs you have installed and system information and steam does it as well but no one seems to make a big fuss about that. I just think of it as if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to worry about.

I'm going to wait till I see some gameplay footage before I make the plunge and preorder. I loved Sims 4 and I don't think this will disappoint considering it's the same team I believe and the always online DRM does not really bother me, I would rather have the game with it than without it.

Edit: I actually don't think it's just steam lots of EULAs have that clause in it, it does not meant they are going ti do it it's probably just to protect them from lawsuits etc.

No its true. Go on the net and look. People have actually had there antivirus software try to make windows deny access to webcams for origin.

And also, sims 4 lol? But yes i know you meant simcity 4. Just seeing if you wrote that cause you were not paying attention.

Yes I meant Sim city 4 and please show me I can't find any information on this supposed webcam hacking.

I don't believe it for one second what do EA have to gain from hacking and viewing some kids webcam and why would they risk a potential lawsuit they wouldn't they are not that stupid, if they did actually try I think it would be big news but you're the first person I've heard mention it.

Well the origin issue is a personal issue not a major issue with the game, Of course origin is going to need access to your computer it installs it's game there and needs to read from it, and yes Of course for some of the games it also requires use of the microphone, and no doubt webcam if it has a microphone inbuilt. They do make references on the sim city site of being able to go it alone or with a group of friends or world wide so i think it's completely configurable. I would imagine there might be a one time internet activation process but would hope for an offline play mode. But no doubt a patch/hack would come out anyway to allow offline play if it wasn't implemented from game launch!

the strange thing is that all the things mentioned there i do not have a problem with as it's information that i share with a multitude of company's all ready opt out is a bit questionable but other than that it just seems like the olde EA hate train.

the problem is these days the default position on controlling your information is set to "allow"

It's your information, and it doesnt matter if it's porn history, or boring topics read at watchpaintdrying.net/forums, it's the fact that it's YOUR information and you have the right to do what you please with it.

Isn't Access to webcam and mic for voice calls over the games though? If Origin is the backbone to the games, then it'd need that access in order for you to use voice communications and GameFace in Fifa 12.

But it's another level of DRM/big brother sh*t. Too extreme methods of controlling their product, and EA, hate them or love them, are notorious for that. They also refuse to support their games, leaving bugs un patched and say if you want it fixed "buy the new game" that still has the bugs in. Simcity will be no different. EA bought Maxis out i believe and everything they touch turns to sh*t. It's uncommon but some people do play on non online PCs. When i was younger and had a pc (we're talking Vice City era), i had no internet on that. EA simply don't care if that's the case - once the games in your hands and your money in theirs, that's the end of it.

Funny how EA sees to be going in the complete opposite direction of their more-ethical competitors, and wonder why their company is failing.

Just look at Crysis 3, the f*cking cover art contains pre-order DLC.

One has to wonder if EA is intentionally being evil and attempting to ruin their company.

Statement from Blizzard on making a mistake about online only in Diablo 3
QUOTE
While many people are playing co-op, it's still a minority of games. Ideally we would like players who want to play solo to be able to solo, and players who want to play co-op to play co-op. At the moment though playing solo is the clear choice, even for those who would prefer co-op with some of their friends.

Are you listening Maxis? The model which you have based your game on has been admitted by the developers to have failed it's players. Let's hope this heralds a rethink of online only games.

I've thought about this a little and the way i think it will work is the same way as region play in SC4. You build your city, and build a "highway" (i use inverted commas because its just a boring crappy looking road) past your town's borders, and that connects to the next town on the selected map - which will be run by someone online.
Traffic will go between the two cities and, if your city's a residential one and his is an industrial, there'll be a communte.

My logic there is if you don't have an internet connection, there simply will be no city there, unless you build a second, and do region play that way.

Just my idea, for all i know you guys may already know different.

This game, as well as Splinter Cell: Blacklist are two that have let me down massively with their reveals, and i am barely interested in either.
