It looks really cool and although I've never played a Sim Cities before, I enjoyed the he'll out of Tropico 4. I'll probably pick this up. Only concern I have is this constant online connection thing.

Sim City on SNES was the sh*t. Later editions as well. This one looks like a city planners wet dream. Sold. smile.gif

I always loved SimCity. I remember my first game was SC3000 about 4-5 years ago, then I had SC4 a year or so ago.
Gotta get a better PC to play this, can't wait.

am i the only person who's actually underwhelmed by this?

The road system looks boring and uninspired. Simcity 4 had different types of highways, trains etc, and with NAM mods became epic.

Sure this new one looks nice, but im seeing very little substance. I'll probably sit this one out. IT looks just like cities xl in my eyes and i did not enjoy that game. the cities became too boring. I want to create lots of bridges, highway intersections, complex road systems, one way systems, etc.

I actually agree, 3 lane motor ways with ordinary intersections is very retarded.. (In the UK anyway..) Pretty sure the 3 lane roads on SC4 had off ramps and realistic fly overs for intersections. In terms of roads the game does look like cities xl which is disappointing. (Atleast the lamp posts look like lamp posts unlike cities xl..)

So after doing some research into this constant online connection, I've decided that both EA and Maxis can go f*ck themselves. For a single player experience, I don't expect to have to connect to the servers, which may be shut down some point down the line, or have this Origin thing have a look through my personal files.
If I were Maxis/EA I'd be sh*tting bricks. The backlash to this has been huge and following the disaster of Diablo 3, I can't see many people willing to go out and purchase this on day one.

I actually agree with you.. DRM = No sale for me. Shame the game looks kinda good but meh.

I'm hearing more and more bad things. Plus it's EA, so im gonna stick to SC4, in the era before DRM bs

everything EA touch turns to sh*t. Even Ubisoft are going that way imo.

Another interesting video...

I'm worried about the size of the city featured in this video, It's way to small, at least on Cities XL you can make massive cities. Hopefully we won't be confined to small regions in this game.

i honestly couldnt give a f*ck about DRM.. i would still pre order it.. since i already have a bunch of games associated with Origin anyways and 70+ others with steam and about 10 with ubisoft uplay.. so why not? its not like i have anything important on my PC.. all my important files are stored in another computer so i have nothing to lose... and my computer launches 10+ DRM programs at startup anyway and ive only been disconnected from the internet for about 3 times after a few years and those 3 times lasted about 4 mins or so.

I notice, that in this gameplay trailer, at 1:04 it says in the bottom right corner "Images not representative of actual gameplay." I suspect that just applies to that exact clip, but still... C'monnnnn.

One thing I hope for in the new Sim City is the ability to build cities in different climates. In SC4 the only option at the start of a region was plains or water. I want to be able to build a city in the desert, marshland etc. Like if you built a city in the desert you could place cactus and desert scrub at the start of the game and not just trees.

Maybe i will have to check it out. But i would also like to have the new graphics and capabilities of the new one.

ive decided that this game isnt worth it. It's overly-polished, like many EA games. It's the leggy blonde "essex bird"* that looks great but has nothing to back it up. The cities shown in the trailers look generic and bland. to be honest, this game looks boring, and i LOVED SC4, i still play it to this day, 10 years (apparantly) since its release.

This new game? I wont even consider buying it.

*nothing against essex residents, i use the slur to convey the meaning behind it, nothing more.
