Well, I used a Sandy Bridge Pentium instead of an i3, replace that with a SB Celeron and its 100 less. I didn't really see the point of an i3 since it would be used only for web browsing, and I found the Pentium for around $60 less

Exactly, I can't see why there would be an i3 necessary, let alone A6 with its extremely powerful graphics (as far as IGPs go). wink.gif

The i3, i5, and i7 are Sandy Bridge if they are SECOND GENERATION (socket 1155, and associated laptop sockets, Mobile variations. 1156 is not Sandy Bridge, like Core2. Before hand was Pentium D, and Core Duo
Intel is supposedly retiring the Pentium name, however, I'm a fan of it, so I think they should keep using Pentium, even though it's just a power, familiar name, really

Celeron continues it's namesake in very limited number, even a dual core as I recall, mostly the Celeron gives up cache (historically speaking), and some internal features of the Pentium

Most people who say, they use a computer only for web browsing is either
1. They don't want to spend too much
2. They're not telling us the whole list, afraid the cost of the new computer will exceed their limit.
For $500-600, it's best to get the fastest parts withing the budget, so the person who is using it thinks they're money is well spent.
Get them cheap parts (only for web browsing) and when they run some app that requires better specs. They'll feel ripped off since most of them will think 'hey I just spend nearly $600 on a brand new computer, why is it running like crap.'

If OP's ma really is just going to use the new computer only for web browsing, then Celeron and Pentium are fine.
For better overall performance grab a Core i3 and the AMD APU for better onboard graphics.

You can buy a used computer like I did that ONCE cost $600 to $700, but you can get for $100 or less, and yes, my Acer laptop is a clear example, my Dell SX280s are classed uSFF, that's ULTRA SMALL form factor, and it means a very small footprint desktop using 775 socket T CPU Pentium 4s (hyper threading supported, no dual core) and DDR2 as well as GMA950 graphics if I recall, that is a web surfing, email and flash / DV video capable system, using SATA hard drives in a very nice case (since they use screwless entry and removable Dell D module ODD/etc.
